My 1370cc Mini - burnt off everyone!

Sadly there are only 2 other C3's (that I know of) in NZ. And one is a race car! So compares are hard. My motor warms up fine. Takes about 15 mins to get to 180F. Then just keeps creeping up slowly but surely. After about 45 mins it is up to 210F. If I then run it hard - like mountain running it goes up to 230F. I stop if it gets to 240F as this is danger territory. The car does need a top end rebuild due to slightly scored cams. Last owner did not realise that changing the oil was compulsory not just a nice to have! Apart from this the car is standard. Am going to strip out the fan and see if the channels are all clear. Then on to the cold start regulation. Then I am going to seriously consider stripping out the heating system! After that an oil cooler is on the agenda. What fun. Greg

Thanks for the replies! At this stage I am thinking that it is the thermostat to the front oil pipes, or the cold start solenoid. This opens up flapper vents in the bottom of the car somewhere when it gets to temperature. I am also going to tear out the rank sound insulation in the engine bay and check for debris in the air channels. What fun lies ahead! I will then look into an oil cooler - RS style under bumper! Anything else anyone can think of whilst I am ferreting around would be good. Greg

Hi I have a 1976 C3.0. Recently on longer jaunts the car gets up to 230 - 240 F. This is way too hot! Also then the car refuses to restart at that heat. I then have to wait and restart. Thoughts????? I was thinking cold start solenoid or thermostat on the oil lines. Am I ballpark!??? Greg

Hi I need to replace my Master Cylinder in my 76 911. Anyone ever used the following, or have any comments on it? http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exec/prod.../category_id/45 Thanks Greg

Go direct to Falken themselves. They have a good online store. G

Have I blown my C3's airbox?
Kiwibins replied to Kiwibins's topic in Fuel System and Engine Intake Air
Luckily it seems that she still runs. So air box is OK. We hope! Otherwise it would be triple webers for me.......! I love mechanical fuel delivery! -
How do I know if I have blown up my airbox?! Had a wee backfire in the weekend - bad lead or something similar. This is on my 1976 Carrera 3.0. What options do I have for replacing the airbox entirely? Can I do cold air induction? What bits of the air box can I replace? Greg

I am gonna make my own! Any tips? Should I use 3, 4, 5, or 6 mm stainless? Greg

Hi Y'all Can anyone tell me where I can get some door stay reinforcement kits? Pelican do them but seem quite expensive! Any one else sell them? Greg

For what it is worth, on my 76 C3.0 with 15 inch Fuchs, I had V rated Nankings on the front and Kumho's rear. Horrible mix! I have replaced with Falkens. Which are great! I had Falkens on my Alfa 145 Cloverleaf as well. Nice and sticky, great to push around the corners. Only criticism - not that fab in the wet. But saying that the price is pretty good! Try Falken.co.uk or Camskill are as good. Greg

Where did y'all get the gaskets, ins, chains and bumf? Greg

What is a good source of parts. Pelican or somewhere else? G

One of the cams on my 1976 Carrera 3.0 is worn thru the hardening. I think that the car has been run on dirty oil (Grrrrrrr)- prior to my ownership - boo hoo. How long should/can I wait to get the top end rebuilt? I am assuming that the only damage I can go is kill the cam? Am I being naive? Should I do it now? I am also going to do it myself (trying to finish rebuilding my 1965 MGB first - hence the question on waiting!). Woohoo! What is the best source of overhaul kits? Thanks Greg

Anyone ever not run a pre muffler and had the cross over pipe "extended" to run straight through theheat exchangers? In effect just run the back box? Too loud? Too much hard work to do? Does anyone stock such items? Tx

Hi I wanty to fit a K&N induction kit - I like the noise! Where is a good source of these? G
