  1. Sending best wishes Alastair. It’ll be there when you’re through and none the worse for it. Personally, I think it’s best not to change every thing up when you have things of this kind to deal with. It’s an old friend. keep safe. David
  2. That seems quite an odd issue so I don’t really know. You seem across air leaks, the normal issue, but a smoke test is only going to show an issue off boost and not if it only occurs when pressurised. Still odd as it runs OK on full boost below 5,200. Maybe change every O Ring if not done, including the one under the recirc assembly if it’s still stock. May be worth checking the seals in the recirc assembly too and that the piston moves OK. Getting enough fuel could be the issue as it only happens on boost and high rpm when you need the most but I presume you’re happy with flow from the pumps if you’ve replaces the rear one. Good to look at fuel pressures but you’ve probably done this too. I’d check the ignition system if it’s more rpm related. The standard rotor arm includes a mechanical limiter but it should be set well above 5.200 but I I think you can get them for lower limits too. I’d change with the cap and leads to rule out a high load/rpm ignition issue. I wouldn’t think it’s an overboost issue as it’s be a problem well below 5,200 with a wide open throttle. Anyway, grounding the send I should rule it out. Not much help I’m afraid, but that’s what I’d look at. I think it’s one of those where you have to systematically test/replace induction, fuel and ignition to verify all is OK and in spec. It’s had a lot of recent work and mods so maybe something isn’t quite right. David
  3. If you find an unequal flow through the injectors then it’s very easy to adjust the fuel flow to each cylinder from the metering head (there is a small allen screw under a cap screw to the left of each fuel line on the head - fractional turn clockwise richens and vice versa). Obviously no good if the spray pattern is the issue. On mine, cylinders 2 and 5 went lean - visible by plug colour. David
  4. I just screw a piece of threaded bar in about a foot long, put a nut on the end and tap it from behind with a hammer. A bit like a slide hammer. I’m sure there is a proper tool and other ways to improvise but this is very easy and has served me well for 20 odd years. David
  5. I did mine yesterday at my local PO and it took less than a minute. She clearly knew exactly how to do it but explained that she’s tried on 3 previous occasions and mine was the first that brought up the option to reset tax status to historic. The others only brought options up to tax at cost or change disability status. Mine was registered in June 84 on the V5 so maybe completely standard on the system. Seems a bit of a lottery. David
  6. Get we’ll all & hope things are OK. I’m still good! 930 started after it’s winter hibernation so will give it an Italian tune up. Will aim for 1830 ish. Cheers David
  7. Completed pre-order. Many thanks David
  8. Wow! That is lovely. Superb work. David
  9. Sorry - really late on this! If you can squeeze me in that’d be great. Regards David
  10. That’s a great trip Ian and I really enjoyed reading your commentary It brought back great memories as I did much the same a few years ago in a Camaro Fifty Edition, which convinced me that 400+ horsepower and a torque converter auto was the only sensible mode of daily transport. My highlight was visiting a car park at Paradise Cove in Malibu where Jim Rockford had his trailer and having lunch in the same restaurant. Love road trips. David
  11. This is a little different for a 930 but I’ve run a cold air inlet for years. Reducing the charge temperature by pulling cold air through the tail and forcing the fan to draw all its air through the intercooler has got to help engine temperature and power at slower speeds. I have no evidence but I think inlet air temperature is a big gain for power and often overlooked. There would be much less effect for a n/a IB but I would think some at low speeds. David
  12. That’s sad new indeed.
  13. Great trip Mark - your photos are fantastic, 200K is a proper milestone so fair play. David
  14. Wow Les, Just catching up and you’re doing a great job! Looks lovely. David
  15. My 914 and VW have been historic on their V5 for some while and are ULEZ exempt on the TFL checker. My 81 Kawasaki is also now shown as ULEZ exempt although the V5 doesn’t show as historic as it’s been off the road for 15 years. For me at least, the change on the ULEZ database seems to have been automatic? It’s also shown as MoT exempt (Green - no results shown) on the DVLA database without any action on my part. David
