Thanks for the input chaps as always, guess I'll get the welder out. I'm quite capable welding it but it was the dreaded distortion/ripple that I was a little concerned about, I suppose it'll be a case of tacking it and then just doing a little bit at a time to keep the temerature down

The original sill top where the kick plate is and the bottom where it meets the innner sill are solid, its a strip along the middle which I have had to cut out which has rusted through from the holes where the sill cover was fastened on using self tappers, I'm not so simple as to think you can just "glue" a sill on, but wondered, as this is more of a patch whether this approach would be suitable??

Hi, I'm still in the process of reparing my drivers side sill on my 1983 911SC (slowly but surely) and I have a long section to fit to the skin of the outer sill (700mm). I've oversized it so it overlaps the original sill and I'm planning on fitting it to the inside of the outer skin and then finishing with a small amount of filler, bare with me!! I'm cautious about welding all of this due to the heat distortion and its been suggested that I use a bonding/adhesive agent to fit this panel avoiding welding the length. Has anyone done anything similar? Is this process advisable? Any advise on this and suitable products to use appreciated as always, cheers.

Another SC sill corrosion thread!
nick replied to nick's topic in Body Restoration - resto threads only
Welded up the internals today with some patches I had fabricated for the bottom of the kidney and the jacking point , really chuffed with the result so far. Need a little clean up and some treating/painting before I start work on the sill and door shut. I'm really quite enjoying it, great sense of acheivement doing it yourself instead of paying someone to do it for you -

Heres a good shot of the hole behind the kidney bowl; If you spray wax through here will it get into the whole internals of the body on both sides or would it be neccesary to do it from the other side as well? -

Yeah I got a little carried away cutting out that section will have to weld a small section in. -
I've been watching all the other threads with interest and finally got the courage up to start digging around at my drivers side sill two weeks ago which has gone from this; to this; I had it repaired a couple of years ago but I'm doing it myself this time and properly!! I hope. I was getting a bit depressed today as the bits I was removing got bigger and bigger but it looks like I'm more or less there now and apart from some surface rust the kidney bowl is solid which I'm really pleased about I plan on treating those parts with kurust and giving it a good coat of POR15 and then starting to fabricate peices a bit at a time I would appreciate any advice and support from you chaps as I come in and out of depression Cheers

Hi. you should be looking for 16s don't be tempted to fit anything bigger, they just don't look right, over wheeled IMHO! 16" fuchs is what you want, definately get shot of the D90's, awful wheel! I had them on my 944S2, they were the first thing to go

Now mines off the road for the winter its a job I intend on getting stuck into over the coming months as there is a blister on the drivers side sill, its just having the balls to take that first step of digging it with screwdriver, scratching the paint away and getting started with the cutting disc I've been helping a friend for a couple of months now as he can't weld with similar jobs on an MGB GT and its much easier when its not your car
-
Thanks lads, think I might just remove it for the time being and then I'm planning on dropping the engine slightly for a few jobs over the winter and might try fitting a new one then or just cleaning it up and leaving it bare.

Hi folks. For the last 12 months or so the sound proofing material has become unstuck and I keep finding it drapped over the engine. I've tried to glue it a couple of times with some upholstery spray glue but it keeps coming off, obviously due to the heat in there. So, does anyone know of a good adheasive to fix this or is it worth fitting a new one and are they self adhesive?? Seen this one advertised on forestfine site http://www.forestfine.net/engine-bay-sound...orber-240-p.asp Any advice appreciated Cheers

Mine is tailored with Porsche crest on the front, flippin lovely it is. I bought (ordered it) at the Silverstone classic last year as they had an offer on, was only £220 great value for what it is.

Hi Pete, I have a cover on the SC by these guys; http://www.classicadditions.com/index.php?...cc21056c2f89f7d Its excellent, like a sweater sort of material, use it more in the winter really when shes off the road. If your IB is getting dusty in the garage it might be worth trying to seal the floor and use some sort of draft excluding around the garage door. I got some strips of light gauge galvanised steel and pop rivetted them around the side of the door gaps so its nice and cosy in the garage now (sad I know ), she stays dust free for weeks

I agree John, great event to spectate at but some of the lads on track were nutters
