  1. Well recommended Cris, finally bought this on Kindle (price drop!), only about half way through it. Don't know wether to be depressed or amazed. The pictures he paints of the possible future is not encouraging but the arguments he raises particularly about semi autonomous cars and the de-skilling effects of so called 'driver aids' are compelling. Not always an easy read but I can well recommend the effort. It should be compulsory reading for politicians everywhere, car designers and particularly the daft buggers creating screen based impenetrable screen based controls!.
  2. Looking through stuff to add on the Kindle and found Driven by John Aston, and was blown away. If like me you can remember motorsport from anytime in the later half of the 20th century this will strike a chord. Not a huge amount of Porsche content (what there is is all adoration) but some glorious memories from the 60's and 70's, and comparisons to visits in 2017 to all manner of events covering racing, rallying, hillclimbs and a whole lot more. He's still hooked on open wheel racing even after admitting Grand Prix racing has gone down the toilet, but there's some great descriptive stuff and forthright opinions. Worth the £7.00 pounds or so for the Scottish tour in a Caterham.
  3. This is slightly off topic but what are people listening too? Never been a big podcast listener but under present circumstances I’ve started listening to the Chubb interviews with Jodi Kidd and the Collecting Cars podcasts with Chris Harris - these seem to have been around for a while and provide some great stories from Harris and figures around the motoring scene. Anybody know of others.
  4. The Peter Falk book is pretty good. If you can find it Kussmaul Chronicles provides another view of many of the topics covered filling in details particularly about the Dakar events. Gives a driver/engineer view whereas Falk was the manager/engineer. Both great views of a special era at Porsche.
  5. Big fan of JVB, but your right same old names - sadly some of it's to do with my age! Nothing against new talent - but even some of that's nearly my age. To be fair your not doing badly in your blog. I enjoy much of what's in Octane and Classic Porsche - always open to suggestions.
  6. Chris, found it! drop me a note of your address and it’s yours
  7. 000 Mag looks good but yes, hellish expensive so haven't bitten the bullet. One thing that gives me some confidence it might be worth it is that its founder I believe was Tom Toridan(?) who started Excellence Magazine
  8. Currently revisiting old magazines, I'd forgotten how much great stuff there is in Supercar Classics, so much great Setright stuff for one thing, and would love to know more about the Kremer modified car in one of the early issues. So far got to the ned of my first binder so plenty still to go - and cross referencing another thread lots of great Bob Freeman drawings. My copies are in loose binders so a bit big to read in bed - so then its John Bolsters "Motoring is my Business" great timeworn stuff!
  9. Those look really good - definite Freeman vibe. I'm sure I remember a small supplement of his work, presumably from SCC will have to visit the mezzanine level in the garage tomorrow and have a search.
  10. I'm sure this is a topic that's going to occur again and again over the months to come and hopefully JG will come along with a professional slant but here are a few thoughts to kick off with. Pistonheads seems to have a steady rise in ads and little or now evidence of price changes. There seems to be a feeling that at the top end of the market that it's better to hang on and wait at present, so is this what's happening across the board? I know it's early days but the level of stock of some dealers and the time that some cars have been for sale makes me wonder if a change is imminent.
  11. Did she really say she’d worked on a 917, hmm
  12. Looking good, as someone who “fell by the wayside” it’s encouraging me back. Might have to sell an kidney but time to get back into a proper sports car- so will regard IB as a window on a better world!
