Matt, I'll take the front hood shocks if they'll fit an '86 3.2. Thank you.

3.2 Carrera - now a project!
Andy352 replied to Robos911's topic in Body Restoration - resto threads only
I got some panels from Porsche, they're actually not that expensive, other parts from Matt at Type911 who seems to be able to get almost anything. My repair panel at the front I made up myself just using the area that I cut out as a template but I'm sure Type911 stocks a panel for this area now. There's quite a few posts on here about Dansk panels not being as good as Porsche ones so I bought Porsche parts for bits that can be seen. Although I bought Dansk inner sills and would say that they seemed pretty good to me. -

Have a look at my thread in the 3.2 section (Scottish restoration). I've not done a lot of welding before and finding it a real challenge some days but I'm getting there slowly. Between this forum and DDK you should be able to find plenty of information. Don't be frightened to ask anything, very friendly bunch on here. All the best with your restoration. -

Absolutely amazing, really good to see it out in daylight.

Cheers Craig, really satisfying as you say. Some days the welding can be a bit frustrating but I just walk away and go back to it another day. That's the good thing about not having a tme scale. Hope your's is coming along nicely.

Thanks for that, my plan is to squeeze a thin piece of alloy sheet up between the foam and the wing, hopefully stop the heat a bit.

Thanks for all the positive comments. A bit more rust removal done, photos are not in sequence but almost finished driver's side.
-
A bit more progress, slowly getting rid of the rust. Just trial fitting the door catch panel, a few repairs needed before final fitting.

Absolutely amazing!!!

I've just been reading this week's Autocar and Steve Cropley mentions a website for car related apprenticeships, internships and graduate opportunities. www.iwantobea.com Hopefully of some use. -
Great work Craig, I now know who I'll be calling when it's time for my engine to be done.

Yes has to be the only answer. I've been on here for under a year but the questions that have been answered by searching on this forum have been invaluable.

I think because it's been in a hire car that you would be easier just to pay up. The hire company will have been asked to provide driver details (which they've somehow got wrong). If you had been flashed in a UK registered vehicle then it's highly unlikely that you would have heard anything, although there has been talk for a few years about databases being made available to all european countries. Brexit might hit that plan on the head.

That's the one Raymond, it needs a lot of work but I'm not setting any time scales. It will be ready when it's ready.

No, not joking I've got a 20 litre tub here, should have given you some when you were up. If you're passing again pop in and take some so you can try it out.

Thanks for that, not nearly on the level that you're working at though!! I'm a bit reluctant to post photos sometimes when I see the quality of some of the work on this forum.

Craig, I've been using Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80. Have a look at their website and see what you think. Always very quick delivery as well. For really rusty bits, get a hold of some mollasses (used for horse feed), throw the parts in a 10/1 mix with water and a month later the rust will just wash off. It works better in warm weather though.

Rear end all sorted now, new bushes, bearings, shocks, handbrake shoes etc. A good clean and a few coats of paint. New stainless heater flappers fitted.
-
I use Pro-grip in Larbert, a wee bit of a trek for you but they know what they're doing. Have a look at their website and see what you think.
-
A bit more progress today on the rear suspension, new bearings fitted with a press so very easily done. Lots of other new parts arrived very quickly from Matt at Type 911,plenty to keep me busy and give me some breaks in between the welding.

I only drove the car about quarter of a mile before the strip down, the whole thing is a journey in to the unknown. -
