  1. Well after over 2 years of being the custodian of Brummies creation, its time to move her on. Mileage stands at 62k and apart from a EB Motorpsort ducktail its unchanged from when I bought it from Brummie. Does anyone have any views re what its worth now as I have not really kept up with the market in recent years? Ta
  2. Yes that would be interesting and you would be most welcome to have a drive. I must try and get over to your neck of the woods sometime
  3. Brummies car says hello! Still loving it and have done 2.5k trouble free miles so far
  4. I bought my ducktail from EB Motorport directly and it is absolutely superb. The quality is amazing and its super light
  5. Bugger we are away in France 4th-17th Aug. If this gets moved then please PM me as I would love to join you chaps
  6. That looks amazing Busy, sounds like a fabulous buy. I keep meaning to take a couple of days off work to come across to your neck of the woods and have a good blat. I've always particularly wanted to drive the A470 past the Storey Arms (having crossed it on foot in pain lugging a bergen many a time!) and also the road out of Bala past the reservoir. Do bear me in mind if ever plan something similar as I would be well up for it!!
  7. Is that Recaro seat not pretty wobbly?
  8. Hi Leics Thanks for putting me onto Motordrive. I tried to ping you a PM about your seats as Im currently discussing ordering options etc with Darren and would be grateful for your thoughts on a couple of things. However you cant receive any messages at the mo..Is your inbox full? Cheers
  9. Im in Herts. Good stuff, I bet the 991 looked massive next to the IB
  10. Hi Busybee Yes all good with Brummie's car thanks. I have put close on 2k miles on it so far around my local b-roads and it has performed faultlessly. The car is a blast to drive, pretty manic with its lightweight flywheel and Brummie's brake set up inspires confidence: really progressive and powerful. As a 911 newbie, that flat 6 engine noise is the best thing though. I did have a slightly graunchy 5th into 6th gear issue sorted by Steve at Jaz: annoyingly it turned out that someone (not Brummie) who had been in the gearbox had put it back together slightly incorrectly. Obviously that was an engine out job so it was not cheap. Steve was very complimentary about Brummies work though so that was good to hear. It would be great to meet up with some other forum members, as hooning around on your own early am on a weekend does get a bit samey. However with young children, my pass is time limited.
  11. 993 engines are pretty expensive to get hold of these days arent they? Doesn't Neil B have one for sale for £18.5k? Id be interested in hearing the engine's full specs and how much Colin has done to it. This guy spent £30k on a 993 rebuild (admittedly its a 3.8) http://aircooledbug.co.uk/porsche-993-engine-rebuild-3-8-conversion/ If you want a well sorted 300hp IB then I would have thought such a car is going to be £55k+ isn't it? However I get the impression the hot-rod market is very difficult to understand as the devil is in the fine detail. £45k would be a good fair offer though wouldn't it? That would allow £10k for the sills etc and then the new owner would have total peace of mind. Probably all wrong, but my ignorant 2p
  12. Hi All I have recently bought a set of Design911 CF buckets off fleabay and before I ask a garage to fit them (and have the familiar sinking feeling that comes from giving someone else money to do something I should have the courage and skills to tackle myself!) I thought it would be worth reaching out to this parish for any advice The car is a 78 sc (formerly Brummies) and currently has some Porsche elec seats (993?). Brummie mounted the seatbelt buckle straps on the centre tunnel. I have taken the passenger seat out which was attached to the OEM seat rails via 4 bolts with a kind of captive nut arrangement on the other side. The rails are 40cm apart, however the D911 mounting bracket holes are 35cm apart when mounted to the seat. My current thinking is that to do the job I will need to: -buy some kind of mounting bracket to bridge this 5cm gap between the factory rails and the seat mounts. I see that D911 do "Planted" seat brackets but a pair of those would be nearly £250 which seems pretty mad. If I had an engineering company contact Id get them to make up a steel plate 45cm wide with most of the centre cut out but I dont, so.. Are there any other options? -also buy a set of seat rails/sliders (the ones on the existing porsche seats seem an integral part of the seat base and seem to be welded on). I see that D911 sell seat sliders for £35 but I seem to recall someone on Rennlist saying that they were not that great with play in them. Can anyone comment or recommend a different source for seat sliders? I havent got a clue re bolting it all together as of yet but any tips re this would be great Thank you
  13. Kenny, I would really love to hear about the 9eleven headlights once you have your hands on them as I am very tempted myself to go for a set of these. Any chance of a review and a few pictures in time?
  14. ok thanks very much Jevvy. You are right, Paul has kindly explained that he widened the hinges outwards by a couple of inches to clear the oil overflow tank on the RH side and the fan/blower on the LH side
  15. Hi All I am about to have a ducktail fitted to my car but the bodyshop have informed me that the cars hinges do not align with the mounting holes in the duck. The duck is supposed to be good quality which leads me to wonder whether the hinges on my car have been moved at some point (its Brummies 3.6 transplant 78SC). Could anyone help with the standard distance apart between the hinge mounting points on a ducktail, or the standard distance between the hinge mounting points on the car so that I can work out what is at fault? Thanks very much chaps
  16. Love it. The stance of it with those wheels and tyres fitted is superb to my eye.
  17. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive holder for a PC680 that uses the existing car mounts etc? The Rennline holders looks great but are too much for me to stomach. I dont want to do any drilling etc as I have the absolute bare minimum of tools and certainly nothing specialist like Rivnut. The ebay one referred to on page 1 looks good but is maybe not a straight fit? Can anyone help re something that would be cheap and easy to fit? Thanks.
  18. Thanks 786, those Design 911 CF copies look pretty good. I wonder how they compare to Recaro's PP's in terms of comfort and rigidity. Thanks very much for the pointer
  19. That RSR Superlight is gorgeous. I love those retro (Michelin?)tyres too. My car (Brummies 3.6sc with G50 6 speed) apparently currently weighs 1300kg with a full tank of petrol according to the Centre of Gravity. However that was in its 964 guise with bigger wheels so maybe its a bit lighter now? Anyway its clearly no flyweight with its 6 speed G50 and whilst its very quick indeed (and with the LWF, spins up fast), I would love to shed say a 100kg. Mine has a full 993 interior and so in terms of low hanging fruit, that seems to be the obvious place to start. I have been lusting over a pair of carbon Recaro pole positions in recent days but at £2500 each, thats never going to happen (I am really surprised no one is doing this type of C/F seat a lot cheaper). I was idly looking at a pair of lightly padded tillet carbon seats but I think they would look a bit too radical for a road car. Has anyone flirted with using these? They look gorgeous, seem to be actually quite comfortable (dubious about this) and at £500 each are much less expensive. What other very lightweight good quality leather seats are there to consider? Next would be the door cards (RS?) with manual window winders.....After that would be the battery and maybe the spare wheel. After that things would get more expensive: swapping out the whaletail for a duck, and sunroof delete.
  20. Thanks for the tip Busybee, I will have a look at the tyres and see how old they are
  21. yes, I think I can splash out on that LOL, but new tyres? Its currently got Toyo Proxes on and they feel soft and super grippy. I have no idea how old they are, maybe 3-4 years but they cant have done more than 2k miles as they have 5mm or so on them
  22. Yes, I was going to get the wheels re-balanced. Would you get all 4 done or just the front 2?
  23. Brummie had the car mapped by Wayne and with its free flowing exhaust, it made 317hp. However did Wayne use to use 9M's dyno and was that rather optimistic? Im no expert but it does not feel like 317 hp The car is also no stripped out lightweight- it was measured at Centre of Gravity at 1300 kilos fully wet. I assume some of that weight comes from the G50 6 speed box but I would love to lose a 100 kilos from it.
  24. Its a great little car. I find the handling of it the most entertaining and surprising thing as it hangs on really well and i find it nicely pointy on the front end . I was expecting it to feel like quite an old car but it really doesn't. Its very chuckable and fun to drive fast. Having said that, Im still trying to give it lots of respect as Im conscious that things could very quickly go very wrong if my ambition outweighs my talent. The engine is glorious (although having failed to find the funds to buy my first choice car: a 89 with a Redtek 3.8, I would like another 30-50hp! Sorry, how greedy is that!). I love the noise the 3.6 makes: between 3-6k revs it makes a delicious yowl. The 6 speed gearbox is a thing of mechanical precisioned beauty and the 964 brakes with turbo discs and turbo master cylinder are really feelsome and very powerful. So overall Im very happy, although the purchase was bank account busting decision which has left me pretty skint! Things I need to sort out: 1) I cannot see the bloody dials at all (Ive fitted a lovely little Prototipo wheel). The car currently has 993 sports seats and I plan to change these out for something lighter. Im hoping that new lightweight seats will enable me to sit much lower in the car and resolve this problem. 2)There is a vibration through the steering wheel at 90mph plus. I dont get it at any lower speeds. Any ideas re this?
