  1. I cannot remember the date that rear fog lights became compulsory, but the factory fitted them at the same time. So if you have them fitted from the factory you will need something in place for the MOT. Most of us who have removed them have gone for the following mod... http://www.impactbumpers.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=4965 Mark
  2. Here is a link to what I did with a different type of shiny red valve. http://www.impactbumpers.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9795 Mark
  3. Hello and welcome Garry. A group of us normally meet up on the first Thursday of the month, but turn out is a bit low in the cold and dark months The next meet should be on Thursday 2nd of December, is any one else up for it? Mark
  4. Back from my business trip, so will be at Clackets at 6.30 a.m. Mark
  5. This is the frightening thing, I think Longman's car would have out-shone most of those advertised as "immaculate and completely rust free". Paul, good to see it going back together and at least you will be certain it will all be sound. Bye the way, any chance of me getting hold of the old steel sliding roof panel for some experimentation Mark
  6. I am not sure you can get the pressure in the system high enough to stop the pump without bursting something! As you have the pump on an independent switch, what happens when you run the pump without the engine running? I know you say it idles OK, but intermittent stopping of the pump could leave enough residual pressure in the system to just keep it idling until the pump starts again. If it runs OK without the engine running I would try clamping the outlet pipe near the pump and see what happens as the pressure builds. While under there you could try to feel if it gets at all hot. The current draw from the fuel pump should be 4 to 6 amps. Bentley says, "a higher power consumption usually indicates a worn fuel pump, which may cause intermittent fuel starvation due to the pump overheating and seizure", which sounds a lot like your description. While at it you can also check the delivery volume which should be 0.850 litres when the pump is run for exactly 30 seconds. Mark
  7. The fuel pump should run constantly when the engine is running giving a pressure of 2.0 bar in the fuel line. If you have ruled out electrical problems stopping the pump and particulate contamination in the fuel jamming the pump, then it sounds like the pump is knackered. Mark
  8. On or off tonight? Are you still going Jason? Is your car fixed Ray? My car is out, but not sure if anyone else is going. Mark
  9. I am around this Thursday and could make it. Mark
  10. For the 993 Porsche used two suppliers for the exhaust system, Bischoff and Gillet. The only difference is in the shape of the flange and outlet between the heat exchanger and the catalytic converter. I can not remember which was which, but one was a circular outlet with a rounded triangular three bolt flange and the other was an oval outlet with a three bolt flange that was flat on the bottom, rounded at the ends and triangular on the top. I will see if I can find a picture tomorrow. If you are fabricating your own system you can accommodate either type and so it does not matter which you get hold of. Mark
  11. Yes, all Bosch batteries are rebranded Varta batteries. And some of the background history ... The battery operations of Bosch and Varta merged in 1992 forming a new company VB Autobatterien GmbH 80% owned by Varta, 20% owned by Bosch. Around 1997 Johnson Controls Inc. (JCI) acquired Varta and its 80% share of VB. JCI is a major supplier to other aftermarket battery sellers throughout the world and supplies the Varta Silver to Bosch as the Bosch Silver. Optima is also one of JCI’s own product.
  12. OK, meet around 8:30 and depart around 9:00
  13. Up and running OK now , but many thanks for the offers of help. So lets meet at Clackets service area by 8:00 on Sunday, departing at 8:15. Anyone else able to join? Mark
  14. I was thinking of around 8:00 at Clackets, but am open to suggestions. Fuel pump itself is now OK after tracking down some bad connections, but the DME relay is now playing up. Car starts and runs OK but dies if there is any vibration from movement. If I lightly tap the relay, the car also dies and so it must have been on its last legs and taking it in and out during faultfinding was the last straw. The new spare I carry also dead and so I have to get a new one before Sunday. What
  15. This old post may also help http://www.impactbumpers.com/forum/index.p...ost&p=98183 Mark
  16. Anyone thinking of going to the 911&PW Picnic/Autojumble at Windsor this Sunday? If so, do we meet up and travel together? We could meet somewhere near J1 or 2 (just after the Dartford crossing) and/or at Clackets service area. What do you all think? Mark
  17. I am not going to be there, in France on business (and even if I wasn't the car still needs a new fuel pump). Mark
  18. And I have just found my car will not start Think it is probaly the fuel pump as everything else checks out OK.
  19. OK, see you there. At least there will be two of us! Mark
  20. I am up for a meet tomorrow, who else and where? Mark
  21. Not going to make tomorrow now, just been called away on business! Mark
  22. Hi and welcome Max, You are more than welcome to come along, the more the better. We usually meet up on the first Thursday of the month, so next one would be Thursday August 5.
