I have one of the Carpoint ones which are very well made, intended for use with the bench adapter I think. I drilled out holes to fit in engine stand, all the cutouts line up with the engine. I know of several people who have used the EBay one too. Ian

Used, but in very good condition alloy sump plate to fit all 911 engines up to late 1983 SC I believe. It will not fit 3.2 as the style of case altered. Comes with fitting kit including slightly longer studs, nuts, washers and gasket. I think these are about £90 new including postage and I am asking £65 including postage. Ian

Your website says none in stock, can you pm me with price and availability please 🙂

What does that mean Matt? Do you have any available?

I am looking to add adjustable rear spring plates to my 1974 911. I see that there are several alternatives at different prices, some from Prekom and some Dansk (I know there are others including Elephant Racing). Does anyone have experience of the quality of these two please? Ian

Another for Motul, I have used it for a number of years and very pleased with it. -
Well done Phil, I took early retirement nearly 7 years ago and I am sure you will not regret your decision. I did go away for 3 weeks in California immediately after I retired and that broke the circle of working. You do need some hobbies to fill the time, but I am sure you will have some car related leisure. Enjoy your own time. Regards Ian

Mel Spear is still transporting cars I believe (see above for number).

EFI & ITBs where would your money go?

I have used AT Power, Emerald and Jenvey on my ITB journey. Due to a change in engine capacity I sold my AT Power throttles at cost without running them and as they are associated with Emerald I have a K6 ecu. In order to match the 3.2 heads and capacity on advice from my engine builder I then went with Jenvey ITBs which with Emerald ecu give an easy 280bhp with plenty of torque. Emerald were very helpful with information and we did only buy a generic loom which from memory was around £90 with a pile of cables! However it is very time consuming to build up the loom and you need plenty of patience, at the time they did not do a bespoke loom and I was quoted over £500 from another ecu supplier for one. Unfortunately I cannot tell you which set up is best as I didn’t ever get to run the AT Power ones although they do look good. The Jenvey ITBs seem to work well although do require a different throttle linkage set up with cables, although the heritage ones do address that issue. I did not have my engine set up by Emerald as they were too busy at the time and therefore cannot comment on that. I used mainly Clewett Engineering timing and cam sensor which have proved reliable and are a neat installation. I have a swirl tank in my installation with low pressure pump and also high power Bosch Motorsport to power Pico injectors. Hope this helps. Ian -
New old stock fuel return line for 1980 onwards SC. These are currently retailing at £179! Replace that old corroded line. Asking £140 including postage.

Sounds like you have spark but insufficient fuel. Perhaps a fuel pump issue?

I have a 1975 magnesium box which has sat in my garage for the last 15 or more years, but was about 35 years old then. It has been painted black since I bought the car and this has protected it fine, there has been corrosion which is not very extensive. There are a number of people who can repair or chromate magnesium parts including EB Motorsport who can also repair albeit at a fairly high price. There is a considerable weight saving with these magnesium boxes. Ian

That looks about right for the pricing. I had a crank reground last year with the same grind, the price of bearings will be the largest cost and from memory around £800! Good luck with the rebuild.

I have used FVD Brombacher for parts earlier this year and they were very efficient. They appear to either have bearings in stock or available within 1-3 days from their warehouse. https://www.fvd.net/de-en/shop?term=&searchtype=fvd-product&search_mode=&view=thumb&order=score&fq[0]=332&fq[1]=353 -
Graham I did get a quote for a 911 camshaft from Newman cams back in 2019 and he seemed very aware of the designs for GE40 and DC40 that I asked for. I did not buy from him at the time, but I think the price was £510 + vat (probably each) and they were able to produce in about 2 weeks. Dougherty did take many weeks to supply although the quality does appear to be good.

I thought you were going to build a screamer Graham, the DC60 will work well from 4500 up to 7500. These are the words of John Dougherty:- With 10.5-1 compression you can definitely use the DC60 camshafts. These will give you more power from 5000 rpm and up vs. the DC40. 4500-7500 rpm powerband rough idle but easy to manage on the street. Typical 240-250 rwhp numbers (for 3 litre engine)

The rev limit is determined by the weakest link and with the modifications mentioned it would be the rockers that would become the problem. I understand that the Carrillo rods with H Beam in theory are good for up to 8,500 revs and the Carrillo rods with Carr bolts will go beyond 8,500. I think you should be able to rev to 8,000 revs providing you have a fully modified and balanced engine. There will need to be good clearance for the valves to give you some margin of error. With an engine on standard pistons that is highly revved I have always found some evidence of valves kissing the top of the pistons even when I don't think there has been an over rev. Hope that helps. Ian

I think you would notice the difference with twin plugs and as you say machining them into the heads whilst you have the engine apart is a good idea. A back to back test was done on my engine with JE pistons that had large cut outs and showed a 12bhp increase at flywheel when switching on twin plugs. I have no experience of using Wossner pistons and rods, both Mahle and JE have worked well for me and the Carrilo rods seem good and were recommended by several race engine builders. I looked at various springs and retainers and was about to order Aasco ones, but there was a significant delay in getting them from the US and I bought a similar set from Schrick through Fvd for around the same price with delivery within a few days. The parts I have bought from Clewett have been great, but make sure you order all you want first time as shipping costs are fairly high from the US now. Ian
