Manual now sold.
-
Hi I have a Bentley Manual that needs to be put to good use now I don't have an IB Porsche any more. It has been lightly used and there are a few oil smears on a few pages but overall it's in pretty good condition. I would like £40 plus postage if anyone is interested please let me know. Thanks D

fibreglass front and rear impact bumpers, anyone used them?
Den 1979 SC replied to clarkycat's topic in Impact Driver Chat
I've got my bumpers from Theo and Dom has done an excellent job fitting them. Must admit I am over the moon with them and I'm pretty sure I can feel the difference in the weight on day to day driving. D -

Hi Theo, Apologies for the delay in replying, I've been away. I would still like to have the front bumper, I would also like the rear once you have sorted them out. I'll drop you a PM over the weekend so you have my email address as I am going to be travelling a bit and I want to sort out delivery location and payment etc etc. Best Den. -

I'm good with £150 - £170 and the foam or balsa core the epoxy resin is interesting. I like the sound of lighter and stronger. I would also be interested in the rear bumper as well if you can do that also? Best Den -

I would like some of these as well if that's possible and would be more than willing to put some cash up front if required. I would also be interested in the rear if you decide to produce them. Best Den -
Thought I would give a quick update on my brakes and their mysterious failure. I managed to get a new (2nd hand from Hu thanks) master cyl and while I was there I stripped and renewed all the brake linings. None of them were overly worn but I wanted to see if there were any leaks or any external visible problems on any of the calipers. I'm pleased to say that there wasn't and all the calipers were free and easy to move. I have also checked all the flexi pipes, they are all metal braided and all seem to be in fairly good condition. While the MC was out I had a good look at the pedal box and everything seemed pretty good there so it was all put back together and with a pressure bleed system to bleed it and check that there was no leaks it was all surprisingly easy! Took it for a little spin to make sure there were no problems and then even gave it a second bleed, as I seem to remember someone telling me once that a brake system should be bled after it has been used if it has been rebuilt. I am not sure how true this is, or even if I believe it and TBH there was no need from a driver's point of view, the brakes were great. Anyway I thought it would do no harm and it didn't, neither did it make any difference in pedal feel though. Over the 10 days since the brakes were completed I've probably done around 120 miles with no dramas and yesterday morning got the MoT done for another year with no brake issues at all. So although I have no idea what the brake problem was I am pretty happy that the new MC, linings and fluid change solved it, I am just wondering if it was the old fluid that caused the problem though the drive preceding the problem was far from hard as it was on public roads. Never mind it is sorted now ready for the summer and I'm off for a spin.

Whilst the fluid is not old it is not new either though I can't see it boiling over during that drive it was pretty sedate and there was no harsh braking at all. Having said that I am wondering if maybe there is a wheel that has a sticking caliper though I would have thought that I would have noticed something before the fluid boiled up. Anyway the master cylinder is going to have to go, I can't trust it now and if I am stripping that down then it makes sense to at least examine the whole braking system and change where nec'. D

This is getting quite curious. I have just had a look again to see if there was any seepage around the pedal or around any of the discs and there is still nothing. The pedal is still spongy and it still improves with two - three pumps, however now when I start the engine there is little difference, the pedal travels further initially and then pumps up roughly the same in two - three pumps. I am still going to have to strip down the pedal linkage this w/end and see what is happening. I am probably going to get the master cylinder done if I can't find anything wrong with the linkage, in fact it is going to happen even if there is something wrong with the linkage, that spongey brake is not a linkage symptom. To recap then, initially I had a good normal brake, then no brake, then once I had stopped a v spongey brake that improved with pumping, however once the engine was started the brake pedal went to the metal and did not return unless physically pulled back. I now have a v spongey brake that improves with a few pumps whether the engine is running or not. Bizarre. I would be interested in hearing if anyone else has had a similar problem, symptoms. D

Not going to be able to get a look much before the weekend unfortunately, I had a quick look earlier and could see nothing around the pedals (but then as you all know it isn't easy to see there without digging around first) the master cylinder looked full also, so fingers crossed it's all still in the cylinder. I think this might be an all round brake refurb. It will depend on what I find on the weekend. Thanks for the Rochdale name for the master cylinders what about pads and disc's any recommendations from the forum?

Had an interesting and almost scary moment today. Jumped in the SC and went for the first real drive this year, covered about 20 miles nothing drastic just blowing some cobwebs away. Pulled into Halfords as I wanted to get some spare fuses and as I pulled into a parking bay and rolled to a halt the brake pedal suddenly went straight to the metal! A quick grab for the handbrake and the SC stopped safely, cue me searching for fluid loss and failed brake pipes. No harm done apart from to my nerves but as I was doing 60MPH v v shortly before I am glad that it happened in a car park and not earlier. I couldn't find anything around the wheels or the master cylinder or anywhere on the car. I jumped back in the car and pumped the brakes and found that on the third / fourth pump the brake pedal was just about back to normal. So I thought master cylinder rubbers have failed. No problem I live literally 300m from Halfords so I decide to carefully crawl home. I start the engine and decide to just check how effective the brakes are before I actually drive home. I'm just glad that I did! With the engine running the brake pedal goes straight to the metal and does not return so there is no way to pump the pedal and get the brakes back. Buggar. Anyway two hours later and a friends trailer, I manage to make the 300m back home. So does anyone have any thoughts on this? I am guessing that the master cylinder has gone and that once the engine starts the servo and it's power just assists the pedal to the metal, I'll be stripping down the master cylinder and the pedal box next week to see what I can find, anyone know a reasonable supplier of master cylinders or is it OPC only? D

I'll certainly be interested in a front bumper without the oil cooler opening Al... D

I've followed this post from the start, equally daunted and inspired by Tank's problem's patience and determination. Don't really understand all off the tech terms but I hope the trip up north pays off with a perfect drive down. If that is possible on the M6 on a Friday D
