Hi, I’m considering the removal of the evap from the passengers footwell on my RHD 3.2 G50, primarily to gain the footspace for my tall friends? I don’t use the HVAC, how hard is it to remove? Can you buy a replacement unit and locate elsewhere? From a cosmetic perspective, do the side carpets run past into the footwell and I only need to replace the floor carpet? Or is there a whole lot of internal carpet works required to sort this. It would be good to talk to someone who has done this?? If I remove the evap, do I get the all the extra foot space or is there other stiff in the way too? Help would be appreciated - cheers PM. Pic of car attached...... Also, I need a contact for RHD floor carpets - who would I contact on the UK to get a set of OEM replicas as you cant get from the factory anymore.

Here’s my NZ new 87 G50, parked next to my old C3. I sold the C3 about 4 years ago, tried a 993 6spd for a while, but missed the classic looks (propper head lights as my wife would say) and character of an IB, so swapped it out for “Scarlett”. The suspension has been refurbished and torson bars beefed up, she is not as light and nimble as the C3, but I love the torque and creamy smoothness of the 3.2.

^^^ Thank you Mr Moby.

That would kindly be appreciated Nige - If you could take photo's of belt coming through the parcel tray? Cheers Paul

OK - another rear seat belts for kids query.......... My 87 G50 has lap belts that I wish to change to 3 point belts to make safer for my kids. Using the power of Google, I understand there was a factory option below: * 335 M335 Rear automatic 3-point seat belts Can anyone confirm this is correct and does anyone have a close up of the top mounting to the parcel shelf. Thanks in advance. Paul

^^ OK - so this explains the atrificial shortening of the footwell? How easy is it to change this evaporator location to regain the footwell back - both of us were grizzeling about it and I am considering buying the car but foudn this quite off-putting??

Could be an altered foot board - I need to take a harder look? Just wondering if this was a typical detail?
-
I was the passenger in a G50 Carrera the other day and noticed the depth of the passenger footwell was much shorter than a non G50 car? Is this typical of all G50 cars?

Very very cool...........

About 12 months ago I installed a short shift kit at the same time as rebuilding the gear box. The particular kit was a wevo and this isn't a criticism of the product as I like the shift experience. But, 12 months later and about 20 track days (open track days not racing), and I have done 2nd and 3rd gear synco's and in need of a rebuild. I have been told that short shift kits shorten the life of a gear box significantly and that most racing Porsche's with 915's don't have them installed for this reason. Given I can't afford to rebuild the gearbox on an annual basis - I would appreciate the thoughts of those with more short shift / racing Porsche experience. Are short shifters a no-go on track cars (or am I just too hard on the box and would be in the same rebuild position regardless of short shifter installed or not) Thanks in advance...............

IMHO - avoid short shift kits. From personal experience, they are the best way to shorten the life of a gear box, especially if it see's a bit of track day use. I will be taking mine out when I rebuild the box.
