Hello All Thinking about slipping back into SC ownership as a friend has offered me his one owner brown over tan interior 78 Targa as a project. It needs kidney bowls and head studs, plus no doubt lots more but trying to get an approximate cost fix on the two major bits of work Can anyone give a rough guide to prices as I’m well out of date on current costs for fixing these cars Also brown over tan used to be an acquired taste years ago and was quite rare, how is that combo standing up in todays market, still in the margins? I can bring this post to a happy conclusion with a purchase of a 996 C4S. Its a bit of a find in cobalt blue/ grey interior and 46k mile. I had a look at a few narrow body 3.6 997 gen 1 and gen 2, nice cars but difficult to find the right colour combo as 90's silver and metropole blue interior just doesn't seem that special The C4S seems to have that classic Porsche look to me, sure its just an old Porsche today, but so was my SC back in 1998 and look what happened to them when they became classics! Anyway looking forward to giving it a blast as the last time I drove a 911 was back in 2008!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone I'm running with Al's suggestion of George McMillan and have spoken to him today, seemed very knowledgeable and helpful My seller is taking the car to him tomorrow morning Fingers crossed it's all ok

Any recommedations for PPI in Northen Ireland?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone...and hiyya Gary its been a while! I 'm thinking along the lines of the simplist most basic modern 911, the 997 C2 gen 2 has got a couple of mentions so will have a closer look at that, it will also have to be manual so that cuts out a lot of modern cars. Also quite like the look of the 40th aniversary 996 and possibly even a C4S, and at the other end of the budget and probably a bit beyond I really like the recent 911 T but worry about depreciation
-
Al...good point, hopefully this narrosws it down a bit, water cooled 996 or 997, possibly a 991, rear wheel drive only, coupe or maybe a targa

Hi All I've been a long time away from all things Porsche but starting to think what if! When I bought my SC in 1998 it was really just an old Porsche and there were plenty about for around 10k! (its long since gone along with my 993) I'm thinking about newer cars and wondered if the knwledge on here had any views on an equivalent car today that's a sweet spot for a future classic which has done its depreciation? thanks Bruce

The pistons don't work with CIS, but will with MFI, EFI or carbs, ie everything else, from memory compression ratio is about 10.5:1, will dig out paperwork a bit later also recall these are J+E manufacture to Turhill spec for their rally engines
