Space savers? ya mean 7s and 9s? ;)

While most shops seem to slow down over the holidays Dave at TRE is going full steam.

This week it's going to be close, relocating oil lines, heater/demister instal, muffler fabrication, machine control arms, longer front wheel studs.

If it's good to go I'll get the hello IB snapshot.

If we miss New Years there will be another event soon after.

John, Andy thanks for the encouragement, after 16 months it's almost ready for the road. :)

Hey ended up staying San Diego and did the local Pelican run.

Cool at the start, mexican blanket pullover and a windbreaker.

post-3241-1262383846_thumb.jpg

It was all T shirts by mid morning, great weather.

Great fun, experianced some new twisty roads, really pushed my turbo look. :)

Left foot brakeing everywhere, what fun!

Pointed bye a new BMW, first turn he tracked wide with a rear wheel off and slid into the pucker bush.

Got off lightly with scratched clear coat on his side mirror and rear fender, we had some great seats for that.

Got smoked by some big HP turbos boosting the long straights.

The RSR needs a couple more days for small details, TRE Dave sent me some heater photos.

  • 1 month later...

Harvey Weidman in California doing his magic.

15x11s getting restored, in for a 1" offset change and new lips.

Also one center was starting to crack, meaning all that was usable from one rim was a 3 inch band.

Guess the good news is that my cracked 15x11 fuch was just a less expensive welded fuch, compared to a top dollor once cherry factory fuch.

Harvey Weidman told me this snapshot of Fuchs racing history.

Fuchs have a long history of 911 racing, this snapshot perhaps the final chapter for road racing on factory Fuchs.

In late 1973 factory 15x9 and 15x11 fuchs were common on 911 RSR race cars.

In 1974 the 911 RSR race cars were converted to short hoods and impact bumpers.

The 1974 body work had wider fenders to take advantage of the wider race tires available.

In the USA teams scrambled to update their 1973 RSR 911 body work to the new 1974 style.

1974/75 RSR race car front rims were 15x11 and rears were 15x13 to 15x15.

The largest factory made fuchs were only available up to 15x9 and 15x11.

Porsche choose to adapt the wider 917 rims with single bolt knock off style rims to the new 1974 RSR race cars.

Modular 3 piece BBS style race wheels were not yet common but would be very soon.

Many USA teams could not immediately afford the 917 wheel update, so they made do with welded fuchs.

They took the 1973 fuchs 15x9 and 15x11 and cut, widened and welded them to the same size as the 917 rims.

Since the wheel was welded they spray painted the barrels to match the old factory anodized finish.

Fyi they choose to paint the barrels because as an anodized finish on a welded surface creates an inconsistent finish.

My 1974 RSR tribute car has 15x11 and 15x14 fuchs with Avons hand grooved for limited street/show use.

I have a set of newer CCW rims for my track tires.

I'm knocking around a long drive.

2 So Cal tours back to back for 2,000 miles in 7 days on the best back roads from Los Angles to San Francisco.

The tours are the Targa California followed a day later by the Buttom buster tour, both for 1975 and older sports cars.

2,000 miles in 7 days on public roads in a 911 race car, what could go wrong? :)

ahh beached it all, I'll drive it out when it's dry tomorrow.

My 5am car show departure aborted due to incline and wet conditions.

Fine sawdust and silt from a tree removed helped greese the last 20 feet.

I made it a couple hundred feet uphill, started at the yellow circle and made it to the red box.

If you are going to be stuck, home is the best place. :)
