Jamie's 3.2 - ongoing diary

finally, the first modification has been started. unfortunately only a very minor one but a modification nonetheless!

managed to pick up a bargain set of clear front and side lenses on ebay:

The original plan had been to go for the smoked indicators to contrast against the black paintwork, however I'm pleased with the difference its made with the clears.

The only issue I have had though is with the front bulbs. I purchased some chrome plated / covered bulbs however the locating / locking pins are not in the correct position. In fairness, there were two types on the website so can only presume I've purchased the wrong ones:

Back to the drawing board and will need to buy some different ones. Anyone know what model this pattern would be suitable for?

Hi Jamie,

You can buy the smoked bulbs that flash amber from halfords.

Easy enough to pop in there and pick some up with the same pin pattern.

All clear lenses look great on your car BTW.

Always stuns me that people go to the effort of fitting clear lenses then stick amber bulbs behind them - just looks crap! Surely worth the extra few quid for the non amber looking bulbs?

Cheers Ben.

Been in to halfords to get the right ones so can now get the new lenses properly fitted.

They are for 993's and possibly 964's. Ask me how I know. Blew an indicator lamp on the 993. Being a little long sighted I did not notice the offset pins and stuck a normal lamp in shorting out the light and blowing the hazard light switch that controls all the indicators. Doh!

Thanks Graeme. If you need some for the 993, they're yours for £6 inc p+p. :)

Updated to clears front and sides and reall pleased with the results:

looking great, and from your other post, great to see it being used all year. I just went on line to tax mine from the end of the month, you can only do it from the start....Dam that means I can use it tomorrow:-)

Thanks Dom :) It will certainly be taxed all year round ready to take out as and when the weather permits. My plan when purchased was to use it everyday but soon got very attached to it, and also concerned was some the salt induced horror stories from the bodywork section on here! Winter hack duly acquired so it won't be seeing any salt!

would be good to see some pictures of yours out on the road if you get the chance.

received my certificate of authenticity through today from Porsche GB. Matching numbers with the V5 which is good and the spec pretty much lines up with what it is no, ie black paint with linen interior.

Options noted as:

Recoil bumpers, toronto radio cassette, rear seat belts, driver and passenger sport seats with electrically adjustable height, rear wiper, sport shock absorbers, high fidelity package (8 speaker system with amp) amplifier system, top tinted windscreen, sun roof, luggage compartment trimmed in black velour carpet.

In terms of 'Selling Porsche Centre', its noted as 'Porsche Cars Great Britain Limited' so I'm wondering if that means its either been a Porsche GB car when new or perhaps a demonstrator? I've sent away to the dvla for details of the previous owners / keepers so it will be interesting to see what that turns up.

Finally received a package of documents through from the dvla and I'm not sure that I'm any the wiser. They started listing the owners and dates of transfer and the seem to have gotten bored and stopped. There also seems to be a few gaps in the dates. I'll need to do some more digging about I think to track it all through.

On a plus note, the 911 has some fresh taxand is sitting in the works car park today. Hopefully the weather is on the up and it can be pressed back into regular use. :)

well, just to keep things updated, its now been booked in for its first service and MOT in my ownership with the Glasgow based specialist who has been looking after it for the last few years or so. Couple of niggly things to sort out. Then, give it a good 200+ mile run before its off south at the end of May for the le mans trackday and road trip :)

It's certainly that! :)

MOT passed with only the headlights needing adjusted and no advisories so quite pleased. Still with the specialists to get fettled in a couple of areas and should be picking it up this weekend.

Collection now arranged for Monday. Costing a fair bit more than planned but it's now had a major service, MOT, turbo tie rods fitted and a few other things fettled. Will list up all it's had when I see the detailed bill. Good run planned for some point over the next week or so and then le mans and road trip beyond here we come! :)

Collected this morning. Running well. The exhaust leak has been sorted and it really is quieter. Didn't think it was a noisy leak but obviously was!

There was a slight wiff of fumes coming into the cab which has also been sorted. All in all it's driving well. Only issue I have is in relation to the steering wobble. It's better but turns out that there is a slight flat spot on be passenger front wheel which must be the cause of be vibration. It's happening pretty much bang on 70mph but below and above it's fine. Time to either get it fixed or maybe return to fuchs. Porsche account is empty now so it'll need to wait!

offending wheel being dropped off with a local wheel specialist / repairer tomorrow to be repaired which should hopefully rectify the wobble once and for all!

Offending wheel dropped off. The guys placed it on the balancing machine and it's quite a but out shape wise. Obviously hit a really bad pothole at some point. Fixable so should pick it up on Monday. needs a bit of heat so there will be an element of discolouration. Main point is to get the wobble fixed ahead of the roadtrip. I'll work about any colour mismatch when I get back.

all fixed and collected today. took the opportunity to get the drivers side front wheel balanced. Both fitted back on the car tonight and, having taken it for a short run, the steering wobble seems to be fixed!! the car somehow seems to be quieter as well so not sure if there was maybe some form of added road noise coming into the cabin as a result of the damaged wheel.

Excellent result!

All ready for an adventure :)

Just need some fuel for the tank and worm clothes in a bag and we're off! :steering:

It's the auto spell correct on this iPhone of mine changing things! How it can get 'worm' from 'some' I've no idea!

Blimey, you were quick, got in before finished editing, and.....

"Yes, sir. That's what they all say!" :ani_nerd:
