Okay, probably one of those simple "We've all asked it but only once" questions......

When the battery is disconnected why can't I re-lock the car with the key once it's unlocked ?

:banghead:

I had this problem too - cant remember how I got round it

Might it be that you lock the drivers door from the inside then use your key to lock the passenger door...?

does your car have central locking?

silly question but you are tunring the dial on the door to lock it and not trying to press the locking pin down?

I wonder if the lock knob has been turned too far and is now jammed forward. I don't know of anything in the mechanism that would allow it to 'lock' in the open position, based on the 12v connection or anything else for that matter. However I am referencing my SC here (which I imagine is the same...)

Can't lock it by either pushing the button down or turning the knob - both seem locked. Turning the key in the lock just results in springing back to centre with no mechanical movement in the lock mechanism.

Still, with the ECU in the spare room and the battery disconnected it's not going anywhere !!

Something is jammed I would say. So you turn the key in the lock and it SPRINGS back to centre? Springs gently or springs quite forcibly? Is this what it has always done or has it just started doing this?

Every time I have disconnected the battery it has always done the same i.e. lock it with the key before disconnecting the battery (because you can't do it aftwerwards) . It can then be unlocked using the key.

Hang on, I'm going to check something..... I think this time I disconnected the battery first and then couldn't lock or unlock it.

I'm off to re-connect the battery, then lock the car, disconnect the battery and see what happens.

I'll be back !!!

Okay,

This is the story....

You must lock the car BEFORE disconnecting the battery. Then you can unlock the car with the key and re-lock it by pressing down the door button. If you disconnect the battery with the doors unlocked then the button and the knob are locked out (safety to stop the doors locking in the event of an accident ??) meaning you can't lock the car.

You live and you learn mate, I had no idea Carreras did that. My car has central locking fitted by moi so doesn't need any of that stuff doing.

I noticed the same thing a little while back with my '85 911 Turbo.

If the doors are unlocked and you disconnect the battery you havent got a chance of locking the doors with a key or otherwise.

All is as explained above and isnt a fault on any parts on the car. Its doing what its designed to do.
