Abid's 3.2 refurb

Recommended Posts

Well it ended up being almost a year  but I now have my lovely car back and it's very shiny! :yahoo:

I take my hat off to the many talented people on this board who get stuck in themselves. I wish I could have been more involved with the refurb all and saved myself a lot of money!

I had just sorted out most the mechanicals before this all kicked off - New heat exchangers and exhaust, clutch, various oil leaks and a suspension refurb including new bilsteins, bushes etc.

Well it used to look multicoloured and had bubbling coming from usual places - door shuts and sills, front wings etc. It ended up with full replacement of inner and outer sills, b-pillars and kidneys. Front inner wings/rails needed sorting. 1 bumper mount was shot, new front wings and various other little bits. It finally had a full respray in it's original colour - Iris Blue Metallic.

A few extras after the respray included lokari wheel arch liners, engine and gearbox mounts (I went with wevo with black pillows for the engine and clubsport for the gearbox), new gearbox bush kit and Paintshield protection film.

The plan is now pretty simple - drive it as much as I can! :mad jg: I'm planning to do some driver tuition and a few track days (I've only done one before) within the next 6 months. :yahoo:

Pictures coming....

Paintshield - Really happy with this. They covered the very front of the front wings, headlight surrounds, back of wing mirrors, front valance, fillet section aft of bumper bellows, sill covers, rear arch, front bumper and first quarter of bonnet. The standard and accuracy of fitting is fantastic.

The car used to have the really course stonechip on the valence and sill covers. They look much better smooth with the Paintshield film although most likely not as long lasting.

Couldn't bear getting stonechips all over it after spending so much!

Wevo mounts and lokari arch liners. As expected the liners were a pain to fit especially the front (didn't / couldn't attempt myself). There isn't a great deal of clearance with the fronts and the near side rubs a little on full lock. Have some shims to go on so hoping this may help. Rears should keep the crud away from the kidneys though :)

For the future -

Regular driver training

Re-trim seats (and maybe dash) in leather

3rd gear syncro showing signs of wear

Sort out / remove previous alarm(s) and immobilisers that drain the battery.

Drive drive drive :mad jg:

PM me if anyone is interested in costs and /or any other details of the work.

Hu - Paintshield do a package that works out about just under £700 from what I remember. Mine was a bit on top for the extras mentioned (sill covers and valence). Not cheap but I'm impressed thus far. Time will tell if its worth the expense.

Ian - yes the colour looks great - even better than gold me thinks!

The work was done in sussex - paint and minor bodywork by a small outfit called AE Carcraft as one of their painters was recommended to me. The bulk of the more serious metalwork was done by a porsche specialist who I had some issues with (not related to standard of work) so will not mention here. PM me if required.
