I wasted my entire lunchtime trying to get a quote from so called 'cherished Porsche' who despite claiming to be Porsche enthusiasts and sponsors of Tipec, don't even list a 3.2 carrera in their list of 911's. Then after having to patiently explain each mod the car had, told me they couldn't quote within £200 of my current quote...total useless feckers who didn't have a clue!

So don't waste your time getting quotes from them.

Ah, thanks Andy, that's the name I was looking for but thought it was hagerty who also turned out to be a waste of time. Is it me or is it a lot harder to get a reasonable quote this year? Having mods seems to be the crux, especially when the person on the other end of the phone doesn't even know what a recaro is. Don't you just love 'specialist' sportscar insurers.

Give Matt at Henderson Taylor a call.

+1 especially if you want to include track days as part of the package

RH are well worth a call if you're not bothered about track days and they're not scared of modifications.

The classic car insurers have lost quite a lot of money over the past few years, to be fair prices were silly cheap.

My old 911 was less than £200 a year including breakdown cover in europe. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that when I wrote mine off and they paid me £15k meant they needed probably over 150 others at that price to not make a claim. Lets face it a windscreen costs more than that premium!

I found Henderson Taylor a breath of fresh air. Not the cheapest but 5 track days and fully mod friendly made it relatively pain free.

Your best bet is to type up a list of all your mods and send it over to them, that way you have acceptance in writing as well.

+1 for Henderson Taylor,

But just be aware Mark that if you want trackday cover included there's no AV, AV policy doesn't include trackdays

so you have to choose one or the other.

and no European breakdown cover... :rant_yellow:

I put the red car on a competition car policy last year with HT. Doesn't some of the bells and whistles but its cheap and modifications are (obviously) not an issue.

My renewal (3.2 Carrera) just come in at £403 with Footman James, underwritten by Royal & SunAlliance, AV £20k, unlimited miles, 5 track days/year, me (43) and misses as named drivers.

Going to get a quote from Henderson Taylor, but seems not too bad.

I ending up renewing with HT, their intial renewal was £490,

But I reduced the annual mileage from 5k down to 3k and Excess up from £250 to £500 and the premium came down to £390 with 5 trackdays but no AV. Mine also has lots of declared mods which doesn't help.

Also has the missus on it and me at 55 years young.

Happy with that as I haven't got time to chase other quotes at the moment.

HT won't do AV on a policy that includes trackdays, It's either an AV policy or a trackday policy.

Will be interested to see what that say to you Paul.

I wonder if they're happy to insure modified cars though?

Seems most insurers can cover most things but there is not a complete package that covers AV, track & mods at a sensible price. Maybe it's simply asking too much!

How good is track day cover? The policies I have seen carry a whopping excess on track.

I can't get cover for sprints/hillclimbs in my car so don't bother with track day either (probably only do one a year). Susequently I can get insurance for £290 p.a. with £250 excess.
