Henry. Give CL a call and they will no doubt drop it. They drop significantly when I got a shock at renewal time and gave them a call to cancel.

Thanks ..will do  . I would like to stay tbh as they also insure my campervan (non classic Sprinter ) and it keeps things easier but its quite a difference but will give it a go . The only other price I got for info was Haggerty but they were £425  .

Locktons inviting renewal at £440 here today, based on what I would think are common variables as regards value / mileage and so on. Noticed that the underwriter is now Aviva, which - without checking - I think might be the third change in as many years.

When I compared Locktons with Classicline (including the discount at the latter) Locktons were cheaper. This year tried Footman James and Locktons were again cheaper - go figure!

Literally just done my renewal with Classicline for the 911 £297, £60k agreed, 5k miles, Euro cover, breakdown, legals etc.

They also do the wife's Mini Cooper S at a very sensible £215 and my A7 at £335

Been with Classicline for years and the cost barely changes.  The 911 crept up a bit as the value went up, but has been static for the past few years.

Just added my Merc W108 to my Classic Line policy for £89 😳I know I can’t drive two cars at once but still that is bonkers.

A further update: Classic Line in Hinckley have offered a couple of options, £303 SDP only or £356 SDP and also business use. Three pages of modifications all fully declared and an agreed valuation of fifty two thousand.

I upped mine to 65k with ClassicLine...

I’ve just had my renewal for next month come in from ClassicLine. With an AV of 55, 5000 annual miles, 250 compulsory xs, 75 windscreen xs. They have quoted me 244, not bad, but I’ll still have a quick shop around as a matter of principle.

I had my renewal through from Carole Nash last week and was surprised to find it had gone down.  £111 with agreed value and European recovery. I called to check this was correct and to ask why it had gone down.  The guy I spoke to suspected it was due to new ruling that renewals cannot cost more than new policies.  Great news and a long time coming.

Just paid mine with Classicline, been with them for years and goes up £10-£20 every year, just had to update my AV and now at £90k😱 (have to renew it every 2 years, done through tipec) paid £335 inc breakdown, legal cover and foreign cover with 3k miles

Wait till this year. Carole Nash renewal just came through and has increased from £147 last year to £230. Time to start shopping around.

Not specific to our cars, but premiums seem to have shot up this year. Received the renewal quote for Mrs njpcarrera’s Outlander and it is up by £150!😱 No changes in cover, no accidents, no fines since last year.

it seems that the unintended consequence of stopping insurance companies from offering lower premiums to new customers is that they have just put up premiums!

LV wouldn't quote for my LR Evoque and NFU wanted over £1k!!

Last year with Saga it was just under £400.

What's going on??

Aren't newish LRs/RRs high theft targets due to the weakness in the keyless entry system?

Always Always do an insurance comparison check prior to renewal.

Both our daily car renewal quotes have gone up by around £40 compared to last years premiums.

A quick check round on a like for like basis has given me a few options at considerably below last years prices. Even the same insurer was offering a price less than the renewal quote on the comparison sites so that would seem to say the ‘new rules’ are a load of bo***x !

I’ve yet to get the renewals through on the toys but I’ve very rarely ever had to pay any more than previously with Classicline..

I recently bought a Boxster and had to get the insurance sorted sat night / sun morning. I could have waited another week to collect, but it would have meant a lot of travelling blah blah blah. I tried Classicline online quote and it was useless, so used Confused. Got a quote with ESure for £185 with no NCD, as still have a TT I need to sell. Classicline did eventually come back with £255, possibly a better policy and has agreed valuation I think.

Be careful with you renewal quotes.

4 or 5 years ago JG valued my SC at £48k. The valuation was used for an agreed valuation policy with my insurers.

After 2 years, the valuation expires and the policy reverted back to 'market value' for the car.

Yesterday I renewed my insurance and a quick check via pistonheads put the current marketplace valuation of a good SC coupe at mid to high 50's. The car hasn't had any real use in over 2 years and didn't turn a wheel last year so I was happy to go with market value.

Renewing over the phone and this year the broker mentioned that the market value was still based on the now expired valuation - market value up to a maximum of £48k.

Check your insured valuation on your policy and keep an up-to-date valuation on your car.

In my case, in the event of a total loss the insurers would have been starting at a max of £48k and working down.

Also - be careful with any MOT exemption. Ensure your vehicle is registered as exempt and it's your duty to provide evidence of roadworthiness.

In the event of any major claim or total loss a valid MOT is going to make things a lot easier.

Not sure what you mean by "registered".

The DVLA website says it is automatic exemption at 40. There is no facility for any registration, unlike the tax exemption where you need to register for "Historic" status.

You need to complete a V112 form when you tax your car (or apply for free tax) this needs to be done at a post office or similar.

I seem to remember having to fill out a V????  form of some sorts at the PO  when my VW Camper went over 40 years old.

Posted

I filled out one of those forms and the post office guy didn't do more than glance at it before handing it me back.

It's just a signed declaration by the owner that your car is exempt from an MOT. Being over 40 years old makes it exempt.

This gets confusing. Government website suggests using the V112 form to declare a vehicle exempt from MOT's.

How do you turn the red MOT expired warning on the online tax check website back to green?
