Sureterm decided not to continue insuring classics, so I had to do the dreaded ring around - in the end went with a very nice man at Adrian Flux insured through Enterprise/Midas with agreed value of £42,000, £450 excess, commuting, 5k limited miles for £288

Sureterm now use a sister company(Lancaster) for the classic stuff ...

I'm with flux on the daily now as they were considerably cheaper than the comparison sites ..

Sounds like a pretty good deal.

Another thumbs up for Locton Performance. Renewal with RH came in at £345 (AV£16.5k), but Locton quoted £260 with an agreed valuation of £25k, commuting included, and a £250 Excess. Bargain. Almost as 'cheap' as the road tax.

Typically what level of excess applies to insurance for track days? A new quote from Lockton @ £250 which includes UK/Euro breakdown, £21000 agreed value, 3000 miles, £250 excess seems reasonable value but applies a £3000 excess for club organised track days? Is this to be expected? I have not been on track before but thought I might give it a go next year. Any recommendations where I could get some instruction? Thank you Tim

instruction is usually an option when booking an event. always worth a go on an unfamiliar track, especially if you don't do many days a year

It's my insurance renewal time, quote from RH who are my existing insurer is £356 , £24k agreed value, uk and European recovery, 5k miles, £250 excess

That's £70 hike from last year , is it worth shopping around?

Lockton so far the best offer at £280, underwritten by Chubb

I have tried Performance Direct - £191 on 4000 mile classic policy with 1 additional name driver & £13k value this year. Was previously covered by Lancaster but they quoted about £70 more than last year when I upped agreed value & added my wife at renewal. I was also surprised at variation in quotes, a few of the established classic specialists were over £400.

Premium £86.12

Legal benefits £25.00

Policy fee £20.00 (what's this?)

Serves me right for being an oldish fart!

Cheers

You may want to up your value.

£8000 buys a non-runner these days

Policy fee = how can we quote a cheap price but end up with more revenue? Hmm.......I know! Let's make up an extra charge, say, called policy fee or admin fee or something like that - brilliant!

Just renewed with Hagerty, £184' 3000 miles, garaged, 17k agreed value with uk and European breakdown no track days and no policy fee ;)

Correct. As the commission paid to the broker by the insurer isn't 'enough', these additional fees are appearing to bolster the brokers earnings. If it really rankles, they are obliged to fully disclose their earnings on request. I buy insurance for a living and have had these fees removed in the past, but I suspect it may be difficult without some corporate muscle behind you. If I am nett better off and the product is the same/better, whilst it may leave a nasty taste in your mouth, you may have to be pragmatic.

Just changed mine to Carole Nash. £240. AV £20k, UK/Euro breakdown, 3000 miles, £200 excess, legal, 3 named drivers, nominated repairer. Since 2006 I have consistently been paying £200 pa so although this year is +20% it still seems reasonable.

Just had my renewal in from RH. Exactly the same price as last year at £273 for £17k value (not agreed) 5k a year garaged two named drivers euro cover.

Upped the value to £20k and it added £15 which even though it is not agreed reduces any potential for an arguements if the worst should happen. That got me talking about agreed valuations and what that would mean for the policy.

I can get a valuation from PCGB free but is that any good? Am I better paying for a specialist to do one and if so any suggestions int he south east?

Posted

As far as I know the valuation from PCGB is all you need, most of the insurance company's will accept this.

just had a quote for me + 1 on agreed £25000 value only £135, this was from 4 companies not sure which one to go with!

Must be my age

Might be worth checking that out for sure - if it's not agreed value I don't see how you're better off?

Agreed. That is what got me talking about it. They want the perceived market value but will only pay out actual market value if the worst should happen. To prove my point I said Ok it is worth £10k what does that do to my premium and he said I am expected to give a fair representation. All sounds like a swizz to me but for £15 I felt it supported my argument if anything should happen and they say it is worth less.

RH still seem to be cheapest for me and I have used them for many years on many classics checking the market every renewal. Guess they are good for some and others are better for others.

I like RH because they're not afraid to touch modified cars and don't pull your trousers down on the premium because of it.

A lot of the competition run a mile if it's had much more than a different steering wheel & exhaust fitted.
