Irony alert. I have unlimited mileage on my policy but haven't driven it in nearly three years :lol:

A.flux just re-quoted me £610, was £400!! A £210 increase because I had the nerve to up the cars value from £15k to £21k and get my engine rebuilt ! and that's without any trackday cover. They can 'do-one'
Best quotes are Heritage at £397 inc legal but no breakdown or t/days
or Mannings at £440 inc t/days but no breakdown

oh the joy of insurance renewals.

I renewed in December 13 with Carole Nash. £250. Includes commuting (any of my employer's premises), agreed value @£21,000 (1989 Targa!), nominated repairer, euro break down, legal. I thought this was OK. Lockton were slightly more for similar cover including track days but the excess on track days meant I probably wouldn't use it.

MarkJ, I thoroughly recommend Lockton, they did a great policy for me this year. Flux quoted me a high price too

Sideways your not wrong! Just came on here to say they quoted only 230 including track days, commuting and euro breakdown!

Only thing is it's so much cheaper its made me suspicious! Lol are they backed up by anyone major if something does go wrong?

Not sure which insurer they use, but Lockton are a mid-sized, global broker. I use them for some of our corporate insurance.

As far as I'm aware, they use Chubb as an underwriter, whereas the likes of Flux use a variety (someone correct me if I'm wrong) The fact Lockton just use 1 underwriter fills me with a bit more confidence. I only stumbled upon Lockton from advice on here, so know a few others are insured and recommend them :-) the most appealing part of the policy for me was the agreed value part. Personally, this is something I still need to sort out, finding out how/who can do a valuation on my car that is.

John Glynn, owner of this site and Ferdinand magazine will do you a valuation, or PCGB if your a member. Need to contact JG myself for one.

Great stuff, thanks for the info. Car is currently in garage getting new mirrors installed, so will get in contact with JG when I get her back :-)

In the end I got my insurance for £194 including breakdown cover free club trackday cover and £25000 agreed value from classic line

Thank you for this - I contacted the NFU (who insure 5 other vehicles for me) and they quoted £616 - the same cover, fully comp, protected NCB (8 years) £20k value, 5000mpa and track day cover from Lockton - £207.24 happy days !

Question for the chaps who have gone with Loctons, who have got trackday cover included.

(I've never had so much hassle trying to give an insurance Co. money.)

They say, apart from PCGB trackdays, all other trackdays will be approved or not approved on an individual basis,

They seem to have an issue with cars other than Porsche's being on the track at the same time, WTF !!!,

I've told them anything could be on the track from Aston's to Saxo's, I've given them the example of the Snetterton event

on the 6th Aug. and they will cover me for that but can't quarantee cover for other trackdays.

Anyone else been through this scenario.

The price is good with lots of the sort of cover I want, 5K, commute, euro breakdown etc

Hi Steve,

Not to that extent, but my current TD cover with Footman requires me to contact them first to get approval. For them, can't speak for Lockton, as long as they have the TDO on their list (I think it is ATDO members and official club days like PCGB), no problem. Well, none so far.

I had the same perplexing discussions Steve. My cynical side said they were trying to cover their asses in what they decide is insurable on the day, but I just decided fine I'm covered for Porsche days but the rest is sketchy! If they covered you for Snett which is a general track day then your surely covered for any other trackday as long as you tell them.

Ps I tried that line about TDO's but that didn't cut much mustard. They are hooked in with PCGB and that's who they feel safe with. In their defence it did make sense that they said generally a Porsche driver can trust another Porsche driver to not attempt something stupid on track whereas your hero in a Saxo will not!

Unless Locktons have changed recently it's with Chubb.

If you want the widest possible track day cover (inc closed days at Nurburg and TPO other days, Spa etc) your only choice is Mannings.

Thanks Kev, Mark and AB,

I have had trackday cover with my insurance for quite a few years now and whichever insurer I have been with has always been clear on what trackdays they will cover, I'm happy with the fact I need to notify them to get approval per event.

Loctons don't seem to have a clue what's covered or what isn't, surely they should have a clear policy in place for what they can do,

I know I can't be the 1st to ask questions,

They say they will cover me for the MSV Snetterton day and also they know Calum Lockie of Goldtrack fame, I just can't get my head round the fact they don't know what they can cover.

AB

I have been with Manning's for the last year with trackday cover and they are fine except they want to charge me £350 and Locton's

£185, big difference,

Yes, they are still using Chubb.

I will probably go with Locton's today and hope that they will cover me for a particular trackday if neccessary as everything else they offer is very good.

Hi Steve,

My renewal is coming up and will speak to Lockton next week about this. I'll let you know how I get on.

Cheers

Sounds like you came to the same conclusions as me Steve regarding Lockton v Mannings and trackday cover. All we can do is notify them each time and see what they will cover, other than PCGB days. I think its the hero brigade in your corsas and Pugs they are wary of on your cheaper run days, which is fair enough.

Kev can get some more definitive answers using his 'insurance speak' :)

FYI. I use Henderson Taylor and have my car under a competition car policy. Its not the cheapest, but all modifications are fine and they have always covered my track days. As a ballpark, I am insuring for something close to rebuild cost, so its a biggish AV and I am under £500 premium. Heritage would be cheaper, but the mods rule it out. Just another option.

I was with Henderson's for 2 years and all was good, then they withdrew commuting, so I went with Manning's for the last year just gone,

they ticked all the boxes but renewal is £350,

Locktons are £189 and tick even more boxes, 5k against 3k and includes GB/Euro breakdown cover. so I have gone with them today,

They only cover Porsche Club, Ferrari Owners Club and Aston Martin trackdays at the moment, although they say they will cover me for MSV

at Snetterton in Aug.

Another vote for Locktons.

The only item of Chubbs' small print I didn't like was the 10pm ~ 6am curfew when within 1/4 of mile of the registered address.

Still I guess it always make me garage the 911 rather than risk leaving it outside.

Looks like Loktons will be getting my business as well:

Hagerty Renewal: £333 (2000miles, limited "sunny day" commute)

Classicline: £318 (3000miles, commuting included, plus track day cover)

RH Classic: Been waiting for 2days for them to talk to their underwriters....

Loktons: £212 (3000miles, commuting, plus track day over on case by case basis to be checked with underwriters)

I've been using Mannings, very straightforward and easy, just changed over to the 964, dramatically increased the value and only £69 extra for the remaining 6 months of the policy, 5000 miles and unlimited track days. Also, they seem just very easy to deal with. I have enough hassle chasing quotes for the bloody Ford Focus 1.4 that the kids are insured for (value £1000, cost annually, £1000!) it seems too much of a faff to hassle with the Porsche. Just wish I could get more miles without going to a standard policy. 5k just not enough!
