Just had my renewal through from Footman James, I am on one of the old AON policies that covers me for 5 trackdays cost £456 at £20k av, putting av up to £30k on JG recommendation took it to £615, admittedly unlimited miles.

So I have just been on to Lockton, same drivers (wife and I) £30k av including trackdays £189 for 3000miles or £207 for 5000 miles so seems like a no brainer.

It does not look like Footman James want the business anymore.

I am in a similar position with FJ. Have been with them for years so on an old (ex Aon) scheme, which seemingly now dead as they have randomly introduced 1500 pa mileage limitation (previously unlimited), no mention of TD cover (5 previously) and premium up. As I will be increasing the value (thanks JG for the help with this), I suspect premium heading further north - sounds like a winner

Thanks for the pointers to Locktons - RH specialist wanted £291 renewal non agreed value, Brentacre £360 with £32k agreed value, Locktons £189 - happy bunny (thanks for the valuation JG!)

I've had my classics with FJ (and it's predecessors) for longer than I like to recall.

About 3yrs ago, they trebled ( yes, trebled) the premium! And they wondered why they didn't get my business anymore.

Haggerty did the package for the cars at less than the original FJ quote!

I met a FJ rep, who was handing out goodies at a rally we were on and he let it slip that they(FJ) were using their classic car business to help them undercut their other insurance business, which is highly cut-throat.

Locktons for me this year: £284 for 7.5k, agreed value of £30k, euro and UK breakdown etc.

FYI: Hagerty wanted £467 for 5k miles, Mannings £342 for 5k miles (no breakdown), Henderson Taylor couldn't quote, Classicline £350 for 7.5k miles, incl euro breakdown. Requote from Brentacre was £245 but didn't include breakdown which was £83 for Euro cover....

Locktons are quoting £225 here. 5,000 miles SDP plus business commuting. Four pages of modifications declared and accepted. Suggested agreed value of £30k (require a valuation less than three months old / only market value cover until valuation received). Full NCB. A fault claim (repaid in full). Not main vehicle. Garaged urban postcode. Salvage may be retained although they charge 30% of the agreed value. Track days: any PCGB, others may be requested.

Seems good chaps.

Slight hiccup to mention with Locktons. Checking through the schedule vehicle use was given as Social, Domestic and Pleasure only when SDP and Business Use was agreed. Also the NCB is given as unprotected when infact no option was discussed.

Seems sorted now, new docs enroute. Just thought I'd mention it here in case other Lockton clients had missed similar errors.

Just changed to Locktons myself for my 3.2 Sport. Paid £250 for 7500 miles, SDP + commuting, garaged, UK & European cover, agreed valuation of £25k, track day cover. They were a pleasure to deal with also.

I tried one or two other companies but none of them would offer policies for over 5k miles.

My professional experience when working with Lockton is similar. Good deals, good products but let themselves down on the detail/documentation. Glad you got it sorted.

Thjis topic always interests me on varied responses and criteria for renewal but very seldom ever covers....what if an accident occurs on track or off?

How easy or difficult will the process be and will car be repaired to satisfaction or not etc etc.

I use Manning and CL.....have experienced a claim in past and it was effortless and seemless....will this be the case with mega cheap insurers?

To add to insurance intelligence, my Orange C3 is on with Hagerty's laid-up cover while stored at Midlands Car Storage. £40k agreed, £110 pa.

The M3 at £8k agreed was quoted at same price for laid up. 924 Turbo is also there in storage - 912E probably heading there too for a while when it arrives in UK.

Although not 911, I've just had my renewal up in the 968.

Stayed with Henderson Taylor but switched from Aviva to ERS (equity red star). About £450 but then I live in London and it gives AV and track days so that's OK with me.

Anyone had experience of ClassicLine Insurance. I thought my renewal with Carole Nash at £260 was reasonable for 3000 miles, £29k AV, £200 excess, 3 named drivers, UK/Euro breakdown... Locktons are almost identical but ClassicLine have come in at £164 pa with lower excess for an Equity Red Star policy. Seems to good to be true, what's the catch? Thank you.

I started with Classic Line but the renewal at the end of the 1st year was not competitive. They also dropped the European breakdown cover.

However after a few years with Hagerty, in September I renewed with Classic Line.

Agreed value – using JG’s valuation, detailed build sheet declaring all modifications, European breakdown cover and UK track day cover. The price was around £200 for the year and for a further £80 they covered the car for 2 days of track driving at Spa.

The track day cover is the real sweetener (track day XS 10% of vehicle value).

I just hope they remain competitive at renewal next year.

Anyone had experience of ClassicLine Insurance.

Yup - always get a quote from them and have been insured with them in the past. Not had to claim from them so can't advise on that. Every year I nearly go with them but manage to get a better quote. Every year the insurance quote/market changes so you can't say a certain broker will do x/y/z for certain - gotta ask the questions and read the small print.

Not much help probably but there you go

Nice one Rob,

I just swapped back to Henderson Taylor as they have now become cheaper than RH who I've been insured with for the past couple of years. Both very mod friendly but when the AV got high RH became less competitive.

HT were also cheaper than they have quoted for the last two years with a much larger AV, 6 x track days (inc European bar the ring), commuting, 5k miles, legal, windscreen etc was under £500.

They used to either do AV or track cover but now can do both so well worth a call.

Renewal time!

As per above I have been with RH for a few years and they have always been good. Upped the AV and they have become less competitive. Premium last year was £270 and this year £295 both at £20k value. Upping it to £30k put the premium to £382.

Gave Classicline and call and exactly the same cover for £253. Based on the good comments on here I will give them a go (or more like I hope I don't have to give them a go;) )

Cover is for £30k AV 5000miles per year with £150 xs and euro breakdown cover, Garaged as a second car. Two named drivers and me with one SP30.

That reflects my experience with RH too - not sure their calculation for increases in agreed value work out competitively.

Locktons for me. The usual suspects were way out on price once the AV went up. Will probably move the Hairdryer to them too as they'll cover it with all the modifications for a reasonable premium.
