Was with Locktons last year - renewal came in at £306 until the new AV came along when it went up to £370, so I have gone with Classicline this year, 7.5k miles, AV £42k, Euro breakdown and track days included: £298.

I stayed with ClassicLine this year but now I'm back from Jersey (lots of brokers wouldn't quote as they didn't want to do Insurance Discs) I did call around.

1988 Carrera Cabrio LHD

Fresh paint, fresh roof (well, 3 years and 4,000km ago)

I'm the 2nd owner (first for 18 years, me for 9 years)

Agreed value of £38,500 from JG

Postcode. SE8. I live in Greenwich by mere metres. Beirut would be a better risk than SE8.

5,000 miles per year

35 year old Chartered Accountant

Not garaged but in secure underground parking with HD CCTV (200m from my house).

£261.75 a year. I was staggered; they were 50% cheaper than the next quote.

This includes Euro breakdown with track days included if notified and club organised and £50 for UK and £100 for Euro if not. (I think, from memory)

Eek! Get it valued double quick, I suspect you're way underinsured at the mo.

Second this! Specifically with the market how it is, an annual valuation should be a minimum :)

Keeping up to date photos and records for the car has also been advised :)

Coming up for renewal next month and as JG has given me a value of £26000 :o I have shopped around a bit.

AV £26000, Croydon postcode, 3000 miles, mods declared, 90 days euro inc breakdown, legal cover, 1 named driver.

Last year with RH at £14000 AV was £253

This year - Classicline £284 - good

Hagerty £193 - wow! And underwritten by Hiscox who my wife used to work for and all they do is high end stuff.

Just to add to above. Spoke to RH and at the new value they quoted £394. RH has just gone over to Hiscox like Hagerty so it is difficult to see how they can justify £200 more??

Do Lockton's stipulate the need for a Cat1 alarm or tracker? Does it have to be garaged too ?

Not on mine though it is garaged. Just the regular Porsche fitment immobiliser.

Cost of mine with Lockton made no difference whether alarmed or not but has to be garaged overnight when within a certain distance of home.

HTH Shirish.

cheers chaps - got a several weeks to go yet before renewal is due, however i'll see what Henderson Taylor come back with first (HT have stipulated a Cat1 alarm for the past few years )

updated valuation now starts with a '5', so guessing it isn't going to be cheap either way

Blardy Hell Shirish!!

Interested to seee how much of a difference this makes - RH wanted to put mine up loads last year purely because the AV had increased by a fair bit. Henderson Taylor were actually cheaper than the year before even with increased AV and chuck in a few free track days.

I know - i too am slightly cautious about the impact to the premium, but will see.

Think I paid £500 last year for 3k miles (N2 postcode), retaining the £38k valuation from 2013 (post bodywork / interior refresh)

Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing for you! You'll be scared to use it and don't tell your wife, she'll be eyeballing it as a deposit on your next house!

It is a stunning car though :-)

Didn't think of keeping that bit of info away from the Mrs :) We're are thinking of buying a house in the next 12m, and I was using the car's value to insist on OSP/garage as a minimum requirement :)

No fear that I won't use it, if something happens to it and I get the AV back I quite fancy a change to a Alfa Giulia coupe of some description. Nearly bought one after the CS back in 2005, but no garage (then) put me off.

Mine's insured through Locktons, AV also starts with a 5 even though it's only an SC. Policy was £485, garaged, 3k miles limited which I've just about done already, whoops!

When comparing rates worth noting that London postcode always carries a big premium which could be as high as 35% (NW vs OX) IIRC.

Just done multi car with Admiral. They do agreed value classic policies! The Porsche came in at £185 p/a with 5k miles. Best I've ever had compared to all the specialist classic insurers.

I have admiral multi car insurance too - was cheapest when I signed with them last summer and very pleased with their pre & post sales service but have never put in a claim.

Just wait till the valuations start with a 7! And my old GT3 value has doubled in a year.....

"Your car is undervalued and you now have to have a tracker sir"

"But I have one"

" Ah but that is 2005 old technology - you have to have a constantly monitoring one - Cat5"

"Good morning Trackstar - how much is a Cat5 tracker and can I transfer my lifetime subscription for my Trackstar scooper dooper please?"

"Cat 5 sir? That will be £700 and no you can't - you need a new subscription as well - and that is another £160 per year!!!"

"Jeez! Can I transfer my existing tracker to my 3.2?"

"No chance sucker - they only have a 2 year warranty so it probably doesn't work any more so bin it"

WTF!!!

So a fresh quote returned from Lockton based on the updated valuation = £292.88 (250 xs) compared with the £550 (250xs) Henderson Taylor are quoting for the old 38k valuation.

The Lockton quote includes breakdown cover, legal, £50 windscreen xs, and trackday where organised by PCGB. Also covers all of the mods i've undertaken.

Car must be garaged, however, a 'driveway only' quote would increase the premium by £20-30 - unlikely i'll need this but useful to know.

Only downside is I get free membership to PCGB for the first year .... and then have to maintain my membership to be elegible for insurance
