I'm a dad of two now, I wear big dad pants so can lay down the law, even if it gets ignored or ridiculed. I think we should have a midlands meet soon and turn it into a carpark ruck. :dancer:

I'm confused, i have no idea who you are, you may be a Porsche specialist that i haven't heard of? With that in mind, i mention that i'm repeating what i am told, and that the only experience i have is using the brakes at high speed, and they work great.....

Then you accuse me of having attitude!? Do you have a bone to pick with me? Feel free to send me a PM if you would rather get something off your chest off the forums, or feel free to air it on here, pretty sure i have nothing to hide.

Attitude? Look at what I quoted. If you didn't mean to be sarcastic (ie, the attitude) then you have a strange way of expressing yourself. Then, I recall you calling me an idiot in a certain Rufalike thread recently....

Maybe I allowed my interpretation of your post to be coloured by your posting history towards me, but thats hardly unexpected is it? I have no problem with you - you have a cool car, you have been thru hell and back to get it where it is, I have read all the posts on other forums about the car, you have a lot to contribute. Respect. I want to hear what you have to say and I want to hear about your car. More importantly, I am sure you are man enough to take the odd question/comment about the facts behind your opinion for what it is - a question or comment. I have never questioned your integrity or character, so don't act like I have and take it personally. I have asked you questions that are factual, like CHTs or brake bias.

Now, its not my sandbox, but I have been in this sandbox since the very beginning and I have some idea of how we are supposed to play around here. My history on this board is trying to help people out with thoughtful posts based on factual information. When I am wrong, I take it on the chin, but seat of the pants generally doesn't trump facts and I am not afraid of asking folks to back an opinion up with some good hard evidence. What some specialist may have told you isn't fact - its just another opinion, maybe a very good opinion, but not always and sometimes specialists turn out to be dead wrong.

Just this once, however, I do have a personal comment - just maybe, you might like to take the time to see who some of the others on this board are and what they might know before you start throwing down the insults or suggesting they are not sufficiently experienced. If you do that, it will be pretty obvious why I responded the way I did.

I have said my bit. No big deal. Back to business as usual.

+1

I've been here since the early days myself and have always welcomed RB's contributions - they are to my mind both knowledgeable and helpful.

FWIW this board is a happy place to be as the contributions are mainly helpful and supportive - you will always get the 'have you checked the tyre pressures' type response to the 'car won't start' thread but they are generally well meant. I myself must have bored people rigid with my 'check the starter connection' response to non charging issues but this is what happened to me so it was, as I say, well meant.

In the 12 years I've had my car I've come across many specialists - most very good - some diabolical - "of course you can fit a twin outlet exhaust without modifying your valence". Most of them are, however, very busy making a living and can't be expected to share their knowledge at all times so fellow enthusiasts are the best source of info / discussion.

I've said this before but this isn't Pelican and shouldn't be - we're all in this together aren't we?

Carreracat can I start again on this as I was guilty of throwing my :twocents: before knowing exactly what you want from an upgrade. I’ve got a few questions I hope you can answer,

What aspect of your current 930 set up do you want to improve, is it the look ie something a bit brighter or modern looking, or braking stability under cornering ie front/rear bias, repeatable stopping efficiency ie reduce or eliminate brake fade, the feel of the pedal, shorter stopping distance, to save weight, to replace worn parts, to allow for more track specific use etc.etc.????? It would also help if you can rank what you want from an upgrade in order of importance first.

Also tell us a bit more about your car, has the engine been up rated and if so to what level, is it stripped and lighted, does it have an LSD if so how aggressive is it under braking, what size and type are your wheels and tyres and do you plan on changing these when you upgrade, if so to what, how scorchio is it out there compared to the UK, what type of tracks are they, short straights and slow corners or long straights and fast corners?????

How far do you want to go with this, do you want improve your current set up without spending too much money ie pad and fluid change and maybe some air ducting, or would rather mix and match 2nd hand Porsche parts form other models or do you want the best you can get and don’t mind spending some cash, do you want an easy bolt on change or happy to go to the trouble of getting a few parts machined up?????

The more you can tell us the better chance someone on here can recommend the right upgrade for you and your car.

"does it have an LSD if so how aggressive is it under braking" Sorry to but in chaps but can someone educate me as to how an LSD effects breaking as I have one on my 930 and thought it only helps when getting the power down.

My understanding is that torque-sensing LSD's can make the car unstable under heavy braking whereas plate-type diffs (eg: Porsche factory ZF) are less intrusive in this respect. One of the reasons why some people prefer the plate-type diffs.

A plate type LSD can provide locking under deceleration as well as acceleration, so it adds stability under braking. The options seem to be 2-way (full LSD function on decel) or 1.5-way (reduced force applied to plates under decel) which is what Kaaz recommend for 911s. This info page might help explain

Higgoes having a kaaz fitted at SVP ,when he learns how to drive it properly he may be able to offer some feedback :D

With a track biased plate LSD it will have a tendency to induce under steer.

To counteract this you need to change your driving style.

Brake much later into the corner but shift the brake bias towards the rear of the car.

Bit of leap of faith…….
