3.2 engine rebuild - parts supply

Hi guys,

After 24 years and 120000 miles, I thought it was time to rebuild the engine of my 3.2 Carrera. So it is now apart and the outcome is not bad.

A few questions regarding parts supply for the specialists:

Is there a more cost effective place to buy them than Porsche? Their quote is about £4k for all the parts.

Tensioner sprocket (90110505500) and oil cooler (91110704100) don't seem to be available from Posrche. Where can I get these parts from?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Ralph, Can I ask what made you think now was the time?

Mine is at similar miles and I have no issues at all so wondered what made you think lets do it?

Do you have smoke, rattles, using oil etc?

Thanks guys for all the replies. I will get alternative quotes from Eurocarparts and Type911.

Jay,

The car was running fine. The oil consumption was a little above 0.5l per 1000km but I had a few small leaks plus blue smoke for a few seconds on some cold starts.

I own this car for more than 10 years with no other aim than keeping it so I thought I'd refresh its motor now.

Before stripping the engine, I checked the leak downs and I had two cylinders that were quite a bit lower due to leak via exhaust valve, another one was leaking a little from the inlet valve. Once stripped and full inspection done I can say that the bottom end was in excellent condition, so I am only renewing bearings and oil pump for peace of mind. The top end however was well worn, especially valve guides so I am reconditionning the cylinder heads fully. In addition, I will renew chains, sprockets and piston rings while I am at it.

Looking forward to being back on the road in March / April + Tuscany trip in July

Thanks Dom, waiting for quote from Euro and Typ.

On another note: who can rebuild my alternator and starter motor? The old way: new brushes and so on. All the guys who used to do this seem to have gone bust... sign of the times. Suggestion welcome ;)
