Or should I say, my cars weight :D

I need to know the rough weight of my car so I can set up the rear suspension properly. The kerb weight in my user guide states 1160kg, anyone know if this figure includes aircon / sunroof etc...?

Cheers!

I would go to the local weighbridge ........

I've been meaning to get mine on the scales for months. I think 1160 Kg is dry weight for a standard early Carrera, i.e. no sunroof, no leather, no A/C etc .... I reckon mine must be close to this and would guess yours is similar. When you take the additional weight of a G50 box into account I doubt if there is very much difference in weight between a Clubsport and an early low spec Carrera. Once you get your suspension work done and engine remapped Tim I think you will have a very quick and capable 911!

I'd love to if I knew where one was! Is there a list of these somewhere? No joy with my local councils website :(

How far are you from Tilbury Docks? There'll be a weighbridge there and from recollection it's in your neck of the woods, isn't it?

Failing that, ring a local haulier or speak with the Ministry of Transport. They used to operate a load of them, although many of them are now operated by the private sector.

Hey Tim

I found all my local ones on yell.co.uk but never used one.

If you fiddle with the numbers on the angle calculator you will notice that you need to change the weight quite a bit to change the angle by and huge amount so all I did was play with the range that my car could weigh and get a feel for the angle range that would be usefull and then just got stuck in. I doubt yr first attempt will be spot on so you will probably need to re-index to get the right height and to have both adjusters as close to the middle as possible to allow for maximum tweaks to get corner balance right.

Basically what I'm saying is put in the worst and best weight to the angle calculator, fit the bars and find what is and easy angle to hit each side within that range, drop the car & measure up then repeat as required to get good height and central adjusters - don't fret too long on the weight as it wont actually save you much time.

As you guys might know I had mine done at MIRA through a friend (IB owner). D'ya think this would make another IB day out if we could find someone to work with. It only took 2 minutes to weigh my corners, we could get through loads in a morning. Just a thought.

I used the scales in the scrutineering area at Brands at the last track day where we met up.

Mine is well and truly a 'fat b*stard' - C4 running gear, air con, ABS, widebodied, etc - but who cares with 460bhp

I thought an early Carrera had a book weight of 1210kg and a G50 1250kg - is my memory failing? In any case, my car weighed 1320kg with 3/4 of a tank and 7/9x16 wheels when it was first weighed in std trim with sports leather seats, a sunroof and that's about it for options. Depending on fuel, I am now down to about 1130kg.

All the book weights are dry weights, so add oil, fuel, washer fluid and options to get a realistic weight.

As Jev said, the weight isn't super critical for heights. Going from a whaletail to a ducktail and stripping out the rear sound deadening probably raised my rear ride height by about 10mm with 29mm torsion bars - if that is helpful.

By way of advice, go low but not silly low. Much lower than mine and you are operating in the wrong part of the camber, bump and toe curves and the handling is actually worse. Its less critical when the car is very stiff and suspension travel is limited but worth bearing in mind.

Ace can you find a weighbridge and weigh your car please? Set a good example and give me enough to start a league table of car weights. Take all the empty crisp packets out of it first though ;)

LOL, it's on my to-do list mate ;)

EDIT: There's one just up the road from Snetterton, It opens at 07:00 so I'll go there on my way to the track!

excellent ;)

Try to get the car on there with an empty tank, the new rule on weight is we take the ticket weight and no deductions for anything else, including fuel load.

Good idea, I was conservative with my deductions ......... ;)

OK Guys, got my car weighed this morning.

It's got most of the interior stripped (apart from front carpets), no spare / jack / tools etc.. about 10ltrs fuel. Let the guessing begin ;) (No guesses from Jevvy or JG as they already know!)

was that with or without speakers

He is getting the idea, that is with no speakers and nothing much else in there either.

Without

Ace I bought a really cheap ipod on the apple refurb site last week, worth a look if you are missing your sounds. Then get yourself some shure ec2s as they are a great noise insulator as well as being primo in-ear headphones.

ACE can take a ribbing from a sub 1000kg lightweight

Tim - That is a result! Should be able to get my car down to that weight. Would be interested to know exactly what you have taken out ............

OK, here goes:

Stereo

Speakers

Door Bins/Panels (replaced with Appbiz stuff)

Rear of car is bare, all seats, padding etc. removed

Heater footwell blowers + covers removed

Front trunk bare

Think that's about it!
