Hi all, I am just starting the restoration of my SC that I have had for 4 years. Body needs a fair bit of attention, 1 sill, both B post repairs, a new off side wing, etc, etc.

I have managed to get a period set of Rial wheels for the car, forged deepdishes that should look quite nice when fitted. They are 7s and 9s by 16, will the front or back arches need rolled slightly to get them to fit?

They look like the ones I sold to Jim Bamber.

You'll need a different set of wheel nuts, the 911 don't fit into the reccesses in them correctly.

Nice wheels.

Front is ET23, rear is ET14. They look a nice wheel, I have been after a set for a while. They even came with centre caps as well! They are forged to so nice and strong with not a mark on them. Weighed the rear on the bathroom scales with me holding it and it came out as 9.2KG. Need a better set of scales I think.

Some pics of the work in progress. Removed the offside front and rear wing at the weekend. The complete B post is pretty well past it so was removed quite easily. The rest of the wing is pretty good. I have a guy who is making a press tool for pucka repair panels for the bottom of the rear wings in front of the wheel. He is doing them for 3.2 as the torsion bar adjuster hole is more complex. The tool is a work of art, he is borrowing my wings for final fitting of the dies, the near side tool is nearing completion so will be interesting to see what it is like. The panels will be available for sale sometime soon hopefully as no one seems to offer them. The car is generally sound but needs a few patches. the offside inner front arches are perfect, the nearside is the usual rotten part where the washer bot bracket is, an easy enough welding repair. The front nearside wing is perfect so will be reused, the B post that side is also scrap so the wing will be coming off for remedial action and replacement of the kidney bowls. Enough to keep me busy for a few months I would say.

Meant to add that I have some 6 and 8 inch x 16 Fuchs that will be for sale soon.

Good work Alasdair, keep the pictures coming - we all love a good bodywork thread, are you doing all the work yourself? :signs118:

I don't think you'll have any problem moving the Fuchs on, 8" are starting to fetch silly money these days.

Hi Alex, I do all my own work apart from painting but I have a friend who is a bodyshop manager so have that covered. Will get more pictures up as the work progresses, hope to have a day on it on Saturday if I get the chance.

The ET on 7" Fuchs is also 23mm, so there should be no major problem with a 205 tyre, unless you have a low ride hight, or you are unlucky (the body varies from car to car).

The ET on 9" Fuchs is 15mm, but the 1mm will make no difference and a tyre of up to 245/45 should fit without issues.

Managed to get a bit of time on the SC today. Removed the oil tank the other day. Also removed the oil pipes and rad from the front of the car. All the fittings came off fine which was nice. Started today by wire brushing all the mud out of the front and rear arches which is always a fun job. The repair around the oil tank mounts looks a bit involved and I will probably make it in a few sections. Patched the hole in the top of the inner arch which went in easily. I also removed the last of the B pillar lock plate that spot welds into the part where the door seal fits. This sits over the return for the inner arch. The whole inner arch is up and down in places where it meets the pillar so will be a joy to fabricate! The seat belt mount is also paper thin so that will get chopped out and replaced.

The kidney bowl was pretty shot and there is a hole underneath where the bowl locates. The outer sill is also a bit crusty at the end. I found I had a new 964 genuine one in stock which I think is all you can get now so that will go on after welding all the holes in the scallops up. I want to get the B pillar and oil tank patches done before removing the sill to keep a bit of strength in the chassis. Will have to dig out my door braces and get 1 on.

Am off the next couple of days so will hopefully get a bit more metal on! Jamie (JLewis) from the forum came for a visit today and relieved me of 2 6 inch Fuchs for his 3.2.

Nice one mate, I'm over in West Calder. Unfortunately car is down at Dom's place SVP getting some major surgery. Still got a couple of months worth of work left. You never know the sun might be out by then.

All the best and keep up the good work. Will watch out for future posts.

That's just plain weird. Mine is at the paintshop at the mo, currently at the filler n sand stage, then back to Dom's for rewire n rebuild. Will need to save up some more cash to get anything else done but at least it will be a solid car again.

Have you got any posts on yours?

Jamie was saying today we should organise an IB meeting. I am more than happy to have it at the garage if anyone is interested.

Sounds like a plan, but don't fancy rolling up in my Focus. Bit sad but cheap for my commute to East Kilbride 6 days a week.

Have started a thread in the IB meets sections so anyone interested, bung your name down and we can sort out a date. Don't mind what you come in Alan, several folk at the 944 meets don't come in their cars!

Mine won't be out on the road until the new year Alan, so I'll be pitching up in the daily smoker :)

Small amount of progress this weekend. Got the back bumper off which is pretty crusty and rotting along the bottom so need a replacement. All the crud has been sitting on top of the bottom part above the valance and turning it in to white dust! Trying to figure out the B post repair as well, need to get a reinforced pressing and then start chopping!

I have a very good condition rear bumper if you're interested Alasdair.
