Who has relevant skills these days to work on these cars?

Recommended Posts

On the early Turbo cars which specialists have decent relevant skills to set these cars up properly? who knows the engines, fuelling, tuning etc.

I have been reading about WUR's etc and I'm confused.....

Who can I talk to who has experience?

Recommendations welcome!

Bloody hell. I can't remember his name. On ph his name is something like stup. Used to help out with Peter Morgan inspections. Appears to really know the old turbo's inside out. In your shoes I would contact him. His name will come to me eventually :)

+ 1 Russell. Spent 3 hours with me going through fueling and ignition the other day on my 930. Plus his wife owns a 930. :)

There's a little test gauge that attaches to the WUR he's got one of those to set it up.

I did plug, leads, leak down test WUR. Tested the fuel metering head, spark box, transformer and timing with him in 3 hours. He also drew a diagram explaining the Fueling and ignition system for me.

He's not cheap but knows his stuff and is very helpful if you're interested.

Thanks for the replies.

Russell recently rebuilt the engine on the car so it's comforting to hear that he knows his stuff.

It seems that the amount of people that understand how to setup the fuelling on these engines is low and that is the key to good tuning.

Graeme I have also been told Stu P is the man for setting the WUR up but he's in Scotland and I'm the other end of the country!

Cheers!

+1 for Russell. He's usually (unless very busy) happy to impart his considerable knowledge without charge.

Also, the following have air cooled experience -

ePorsche near Woking, Surrey. I bought my car from them - very good, very reasonable price, smaller outfit.

GT One in Chertsey, Surrey .very good, I think a little more expensive, a larger firm.

I think both have good reputations - they have web pages for you to review.

I have been in a lot of UK Porsche workshops and the only place I have ever seen proper Bosch CIS diagnostic equipment being used is JZM Porsche in Hertfordshire.

The business started as a Bosch service centre and grew from there. Steve McHale knows CIS inside out and there are always stacks of air-cooled cars there. Good guys.
