Collected this 1997 993 targa today from the far side of Wales!

post-1575-0-63244700-1419796183_thumb.jpg

6 speed, manual in Ocean Blue metallic. 92k miles. 3.6 285bhp. Marble grey leather interior

Great condition and everything works lovely :)

Spent over 3 hours driving back along the M4 and enjoyed every minute of it, car now covered in motorway grime and probably due a clean in the morning :)

Been a long search but very pleased with the outcome

Trust that is Shell Super Nitro (or whatever it is called) you are putting in your new super acquisition!!

It has the perfect combination of classic Porsche 'soul' and modern refinement for my purposes.

Feels pretty much the same as being sat in my 3.2, but if you want it a bit warmer then you just turn a knob and the heat comes out (without and gerbil noises!) or if you want the roof off you can just flick a switch and back it goes, rather than stopping to take the roof off and fold it away etc.

I know it's a compromise and not to everyone's tastes but I'm made up with it :)

Few more pics scanned from the add:

Just wait until you clean it and see the fantastic metallic turquoise hew in the paint.

Awesome colour IMO but then I am biased.

Looks great Ben! I've always wondered with these whether they have any downsides to the targa roof - increased flex, leaks, noise etc ?

Thanks chaps - am very pleased with it, plan to have more of a look round it today.

If you read the forums then there are plenty of stories about poor fitting roof panels which cost thousands to put right, but that's no different to what you read about IB targa roofs. Reckon there must be a bit more flex with the whole glass roof, so probably better to buy a coupe to track, but that's not why I bought it. Noise is negligible up to 100, even better than my 3.2 which had a decent fitting targa.

Graeme- that cars looks a real beast! Currently minus 3 outside so might have to warm up a bit before car washing time!

Thanks John - need you to do an insurance valuation on this one please.

Probably been looking for a year, but seriously looking, contacting sellers and viewing cars for 6 or 7 months.

There's a 993 targa tip for sale at D911 which has been there for several months. More likely to find a tip. But I wanted a late manual which made the search much harder. I've been in contact with the seller of this car since late August, learning more about him and the car, then I had it inspected just before Christmas.

There were two at Northway at the start of the summer both at 23k but they went quick. Doubt you'll find at that money now.

Good ones are out there but they're not cheap and prices are rising very rapidly.

I bought privately as dealers prices were becoming out of reach.

Haven't had a propper chance to get a feel for it yet as it was all motorway miles to get home, but the top end power is endless!

About to head out and enjoy some winter sunshine :)

No problem on the valuation: drop me an email. Haven't seen a really nice Targa for sale in a long time so well done on nailing this one.

Nice purchase Ben, looks great. Don't look on it as a compromise, it's more a best of both. My only issue with the 993/996 targas is the standard wheels that Porsche provides, not sure why they were different to the rest of the range. It's a personal thing, I know, but why not Cup II's?

Enjoy it Ben (as if you need telling)

Cheers

I used to think the same thing - from what I've read it had something to do with Porsche thinking that there would be too much vibration through 18 inch wheels so spec'd the 17 inch targa wheels. quite how much difference it actually makes I have no idea.!

no need at all!

Nice buy Ben, was you inspired by this weeks wheeler dealers program starring a 993 Targa? It was a great episode. They bought it for 11k, spent 7.5k doing it up including custom dampers, and sold it for 22? K.

That episode has been around for a while. Always an interesting watch, but I think thier original bought price of 11k must be for TV as you could easily part it out for more than that!

I don't trust those programmes. Heard the real story behind the episode of turbo pickers featuring the 924 track car a couple of weeks ago. All the prices were made up and the guy that 'bought' the finished car didn't actually buy it - was all staged.
