Red Devil's Blue Devil 3.2 Carrera hot rod

Took me 18 months to get there with my 997 and on the way home started to regret leaving it so long!

This time I want to make sure the car drives as well as possible from the start of ownership...

The corner weights are a bit out according to a recent-ish sheet in the service history and it does pull a little to the right on the brakes. Would like a touch more steering feel (considering going down from 225s to 205's on the front) and it to move around a little more predictably on the road, so maybe back off the KW's a few clicks.

It was a 997S, so yes it had the bone-cruncher button on the dash. Which is a waste of time on the road.

CT transformed the car.

Car had a thrust on hard acceleration, spinning up the offside rear wheel. Also front never felt right, hunting out bumps and ruts. Chris replaced some top mounts and some other bits can't remember what. IIRC a guy had been in the week before with a 5k mile Boxster and asked for a load of bits to be unnecessarily replaced, and to get me on the road that day Chris fitted his perfect top mounts on my car for free.

The car was night and day afterwards, steering feel returned, well worth what others would call an "expensive geo". And this was after a "cheap geo" at a very well respected specialist a few months before. So it was the best money I ever spent on the car.

The IBs have a lot more that can be fiddled with, I think they can be corner weighted on standard suspension unlike the later cars (or is this just >964?) and with the clubsports there should be a lot to tinker with so Chris is keeping it for a few days whilst we're on holiday. And of course his development car is a 900kg 3.2!

Usually he's booked a few months in advance but he has lots of space up to end of Jan if you want to beat the rush.

Cool. Thanks. I've been to Chris's place several times and had a couple of lengthy conversations with him, so I know his work, just wasn't sure how much could be archived with the 997 on OEM suspension.

VT

Yup, certainly less to fiddle with on the moderns, but Chris actually listened to the problems, experienced them himself on the road and found the worn components/setup that made the difference whereas others simply applied the settings..

That's why I like him because specialists (of all marques) often suffer from listening to their own hype instead of what the customer is actually asking for...

I'm a big fan of Chris at Centre Gravity. Not inexpensive but incredibly committed to understanding what you want and getting the best out of the car.

He set up my 3.2 after a full suspension rebuild and also my wife's Boxster (which was transformed just through attention to the geometry.

I had a couple of detailed threads on here but they seem to be long gone. Not sure why. :glare:

Initial test drive analysis done.

Front axle gravitates to the right and the rear to the left. Overly stiff. Car thrown around the road too much on the bumps. Higher speeds improve things car is very stable at motorway++. Right heights not correct too low at back Chris feels.

We're going to stick with the Kuhmo v70a's but go down to 205 on the front as there is buckets of grip but low steering feel.

Also going to wind back the KW's and put a bit more compliance back in.

This one? http://www.impactbumpers.com/forum/index.php?/topic/13771-carrera-32-suspension-set-up

It's Center (as opposed to Centre) Gravity - makes searching a bit of a challenge but just the word gravity is sufficiently unique.

I too am a content CG customer with my targa and Z4MC.

Disaster! Kuhmo V70a's imported this year are not going to be e-marked, so 3 points per tyre if the plod catch you running them. Camskill say I'd be lucky to find 2015 e-marked stock, apparently they imported double last year...

Apparently Toyo 888's are going the same way!

Might be a set of S02's after all...

Another +1 for CG. some of you will remember the time he took the alternator off his car and put it on my SC to replace the one that failed as I arrived to pick up the car. He and Pete finished at 1am so I could make the spa trip the next day. Above and beyond doesn't quite cover it :)

The 993 needs another trip up there, must get round to it.

I had canceled the day before as I was at the hospital two weeks earlier than expected...

Melindi was very understanding. Was thinking about using the credit for Spa in April... can you be persuaded?

Apols for off topic.

So no V70a's available so gone back to stock 205/225 S02's. Looking at the evidence here on the forum should be fine on a 16x9.
