Graham, you may deservingly and proudly say ''That's my boy''. Who needs a bigger spanner when you can call into and use your son's excellent facilities! (Unfortunately, all my offspring are daughters!)

Regards,

D.

For sure,up to October he was 5 miles away from my house, now he's moved 40 miles away !

Haven't got room for a 2 post, but I have opened the conversation with Mrs J about a mobile single post. I think she is onside :smiley_1140:

"I bet that's well over a thousand pounds!"

"you're missing the point, I could lift my car up and have the Beetle chassis underneath, so that won't be cluttering the drive while I restore the body work."

"Is it well over a thousand pounds?"

"Just think how handy it would be, I could change the wheels over really easily and work on the car much more quickly."

"Is it over a thous....wait, what do you mean change the wheels over? You've only got one set of wheels."

"You remember, I told you ages ago about getting another set of wheels...going to 15's to improve the ride...Campag replicas or minilites...I even asked you which you preferred. Remember? And this will help me change them more easily."

"Not really, no. Anyway, is it over a thousand pounds?"

It went on for a bit after that...she'll come round. Or the stuff will just turn up. One or the other... ;)

My favourite trolley jack - http://www.weberuk.com/shop/high-lift-and-long-reach-trolley-jacks/wdk13hlq--%7C3069/or http://www.ac-hydraulic.dk/en/products/hydraulic-jacks/dk13hlq/ - has a very long reach and can raise the car to silly heights

and my favourite chassis stands - http://www.pelicanparts.com/Porsche/catalog/ShopCart/TOOL/POR_TOOL_ESCOJS_pg2.htm- I bought 4 when in the US on a business trip perhaps 10 years ago and shipped them back in my checked luggage - double boxed they just squeaked in under the 70 lb weight limit. They used to be based upon an AC Hydraulik (make of the jack above) design but I have never seen them available outside of Trumpland.

Needs must when you don't have space for a lift.

Oh I likes both of those. How spendy was the trolley jack?

I think I paid about £250 10 years ago. I do as much of my own service work as possible so the investment seemed worth it at the time and I think it has worked out that way.

I'm with Sopor on this jack as I've had mine for yonks now, other jacks do not even come close to the Weber. Very high lift 3/4 metre or there abouts. Think that I paid around two hundred pounds second-hand, but once you have used this, other jacks are like toys. Real high lift and a quality feel to it, even down to the rubber 'O' ring on the wheels which prevents damage to the floor paintwork!

Regards,

David.

Have lost the pictures that I had of my Weber in action, but if a scissor lift or indeed any form of elevation outside of a jack is out of the question, then please invest in a Weber, it's proved invaluable over the years. Come to think of it, now that I have installed a scissor lift, the Weber is of limited use now, may even think of passing it on.

David.

These have just saved me from the dreaded rounded out allen key bolts - these work on round heads as well as hex!

I have just ordered a £20 iOS compatible wifi endoscope camera off eBay. I wonder if that will become my new favourite.

Have you had a chance to test this yet Richard ?

Did you ever finish that discussion?

I am seriously tempted by going the same route:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOBILE-SINGLE-POST-VEHICLE-LIFT-MOVABLE-PORTABLE-1-POST-CAR-RAMP-240V-/282309292142?hash=item41baf1f06e:g:Ck8AAOSwBahVSzY4

Want to try and find a second hand one if I can as not sure i can justify that kind of price.

New favourite tool:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01N065UZ1/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Wireless Borescope Endoscope Camera

It has a bright LED on the end, comes with a mirror and magnet attachment, a WIFI dongle and an app for your iOS or Android device so you can view remotely without attachment to the camera.

Used for two jobs this week - inspecting the clutch slave cylinder on the 911 and identifying the source of a water leak on my G-wagen.

I showed it to the old school anti-tech backstreet mechanic down the road, having just watched him wrap himself in a knot doing an inspection under a car, and he nearly fell over when I showed him and told him the price (about £24) - he demanded I got him one immediately! They paid about £300 for a wired snap-on one that doesn't work.

Ha ha! I haven't but I think she has! Still mulling over what the best solution would be but yes, that's the kind of thing I was looking at.
