they want you to recover the diagnosis charge from ATPower 😣 Taking to P me thinks. I would pay by c/card then claim the money back. You probably won't get it but their time will be  taken up defending the charge😉

Admittedly chaps, you’re only reading my side of the story so it’s not a balanced view.

I do think however, the owner needs to develop and adopt a customer centric view though.  I’ve read they’re losing customers, I’m not surprised.

As you say there is another side to the story but it sure seems to me like he's telling you he doesn't value your business.

That’s what it may appear, however, it seems that he’s sorted the problem with the car,and as far as he’s concerned, he’s done the work and should be paid. The cause is a part that he didn’t supply, hence the “ not my problem” attitude. Not as you say a client centric  approach, but perhaps one that comes from having a bad day.

i don’t suppose you want to sacrifice your relationship built up over the years .

On the point of supplying your own parts; I received a note last month from one of the indi’s I occasionally use saying they will no longer fit customer supplied parts as they now have to give a warranty on all parts fitted and they are not prepared to do so on those of 3rd party origin.

Pls forgive a bit of a rambling comment.

And this is not a defence of BMS (or any other indie for that matter), but...

Some of you guys are not quite seeing the whole picture.  We (meaning the vast majority of IBers) are no longer the typical owners of collectable or somewhat collectable Porsches.  The deep pockets crowd have taken over this space and are the market for many (most?) of the specialists now, particularly those who offer niche or specialist "instagrammable" services.  Hence the expectation that big bills just get paid.  Sure, there are some good guys out there who will still look after the likes of us, but our little space in the car universe has got crowded and popular.  And expensive.

Look at it another way - people buying a Singer or similar are spending big six figure numbers, so why wouldn't someone building a Singer-like engine pay 5 figures numbers without question.  I don't agree with this attitude and I doubt many specialists see it quite this bluntly, but attitudes and perceptions have certainly changed.  The days of a £3k top end rebuild are decades ago, unfortunately.

I don't know what the answer or antidote is, but I do know that I can take my 987 to any half decent local mechanic and get most any issue (short of an engine/gearbox rebuild) sorted for peanuts.

Time for a new indie.

RB you are right but the person who spends 50k having an engine built expects to be able to drive it away, done. They do not expect to have to return it, repeatedly, because it isn't right which is the case here. We have one side of the story here but it is littered with mistakes or errors on the part of the "specialist". Geez, if I can convert my engine to EFI and ITBs, guided by forums and some phone calls, and have it running right, off the bat, then the " specialist " should be able to manage it! Shirish has the patience of a saint. If it had been my money I would have been in the small claims court long ago.

Completely agree - I am on the same side of this argument.  Just felt like adding some perspective.  It doesn't excuse what I see as the "wrong" behaviour in this story, but maybe explains it a little bit.  Think of where JZM began and where they are now and the change in clientele.  Or Parr.  Or 9E.  Or RPM.  Or Tuthills.  They were all not much more than a couple of blokes in a big shed and now its all spendy new buildings, collector cars, trophy cars, VMax events, stupid-fast-trackday-toys, etc.

I have my own BMS story from nearly 20 years ago that is strangely similar to Shirish's story and the subject of which was a good friend's 2.7RS rebuild with a then £20k+ bill.  Maybe the attitude has been there all along.  I don't really know.  I wasn't impressed 20 yrs ago and still not impressed.

Balls. You'd think at some point Neil and his crew would think, you know what, this guy has spent a pretty penny with us and its gone wrong a few times through no fault of his. Let's give a bit back as a gesture of goodwill.

Glad she is good Shirish. 340hp. All the other numbers mean nuffinck lol ;)

What was wrong with the FPR? Have ATpower provided you with a new one?

ATPower shipped out a new one quickly, so the car is up and running.

Apparently they’ve not had a failure in 8 years of supplying the part (from Racing Lines), so i definitely feel very special.

re the old one “when you prime the system it leaks out the vacuum control and straight into the inlet manifold causing it to run rich”

I am just kidding SP.  Think what you need to do is get in it and blast a 1000 miles out. NC500, Alps, Spain.... I imagine, the car gets you grinning from ear to ear when on song.

If someone offers me £70k its outta ‘ere, but only once i’m happy its running right (Conscience, see?)

Late night reading dictates I’m going to build a SleePer manual E30 with an E46 M3 engine in it.

I did wonder how our set up worked, odd it didn't last long for such a simple item. tbh I would have expected to vacuum line to be left open i.e not connected to the inlest system at all so to provide a fixed pressure with the fuel requirements being taken care of by the ECU.

It’s a journey that needs a happy ending (not that kind 😂) SP.  IMHO you need to fully immerse yourself in the car now it’s at 10/10. A few epic memories and a few good laughs. Track it, drive it everywhere. What that engine was built for. Get a bit of your monies worth out of it.

In all honesty, I don’t think you’ll get that kind of money for it. £70k buys a lot of car. Kind of why the 964 c2’s struggle above 50k.

Not sure I understand the old beemer thing. They were the everyday cars of my childhood. I’d see one, appreciate it and walk on by. Saw a Porsche back then and stopped dead in my tracks. They do look well priced compared to the air cooled porkers today though.

Sucker for punishment - I might be jobless at the end of the year, so that will scupper my plans
