I might be me - I like to keep track on my projects and expenditure. However I would find it very difficult to justify £25 - £30k on a road going 911 engine rebuild.

Delighted for you - please don’t post on this thread again

Many thanks

Less than 3 weeks till you get her back! :D

Probably not much consolation, but hopefully the cost and time will pale into significance once you've got her back and is running like a dream.

My best friend purchased an Estoril Blue E46 M3 last January. It's beautiful. After a week of driving, the engine was noticeably down on power. He booked in to a local garage that diagnosed a cracked block.

Several thousand ££ and 12 months later he finally gets the car back from the garage. I thought that after such a sour experience he would just up and sell.

Turns out that after running the engine in he is completely besotted with it and wouldn't even consider selling up.

Hope this is that case with yours Shirish. Roll on summer and many many smiles per gallon :)

Having spent my entire career in project or portfolio management of one form or another, I always remember a sage in my early career advising that looking back nobody will remember the cost overruns, they probably won't remember the time over runs but sure as hell you'll always be reminded of any short cuts or shoddy workmanship.

My more realistic estimating is to double my worse case cost and treble the time I predict !

Chin up Shirish, you're so close now.  The only question is how long it will take you to forget the time and cost parts that free you up to enjoy the quality.  I suspect that the more you drive it, the sooner that will be.

Hi Shrish,

Just been reading the thread and talking to my good friend Sam Sung about your experience

He just came back with the following...

"When the pond water is still and clear then you can see the riches within ....but first you have to fill the pond"

He's not wrong

Hope this helps!  :)

Cheers

True enough though.......

Thanks all, appreciate the inputs

Lets draw a line under the ‘mindfulness’ aspect of this thread (someone stop those zen windchimes jingling around :))

I should have a spritely 3.5 at the end of this and hopefully, it goes like a bar steward - everything else is secondary.

Hey Shirish,

To put it into perspective, arguably your car is nicer than this and won't smell of wee like this one does (carbs) and this is priced at $200K for the conversion.

So, happy days 😀

I'd really like to see/hear/experience it when it's finished 👍

For being a long term all round IB good egg, you can have the keys whence sorted (usual caveats apply re binning it ;) )

Keep the faith Shirish,

It's going to be an awesome car when it's finished,  I'm sure once you start driving it,  it will seem worth the expense.

Costs escalating and not knowing when its going to end is a very stress full situation.

So with financial constraints in play, i took a decision not to run it on Neil's engine dyno - tis a shame, however £1700 is far too much at present.  Neil will run it in on his chassis dyno and perform basic mapping, however fine tuning will be undertaken at a nearby chassis dyno.

I'm told the engine will be back in the chassis today/tomorrow, however there maybe a delay getting it to on the target dyno as 'Mr Motec' is out of the country at present in India.

In other news, an issue arose this week regarding the chunky vaccum hose in the engine bay that goes to the brake servo via a tube in the chassis.  There wasn't much left of the chassis mating point left of mine, so some trickery needed to replace/insert a replacement spigot.   If this connection or the hose itself fails, it will cause a vacuum leak, resulting in ongoing running issues. Not as common a vacuum leak as the more commonly known one, so one to be check or be aware of.

So was there good news over the weekend? Is the engine back in the chassis?

There was indeed.

No pics yet, but just had confirmation from Neil that the engine is in.

Needs a fuel line connector of some description but close to run-in I imagine.

Can be aesthetically pleasing engines when you remove all of the gubbins.

Ive got 2 other cars, and neither is available right now for me to get up there in person.....

Will hopefully get a chance next week.

@SP72 if you're keen to go out there, get the train out to Aylesbury and I'll run you over there. I could do Thursday afternoon from about 3pm or Friday afternoon.

You’re a gent, Lewis, but I’m ok to survive till next week.

Ive asked him to take a vid of the startup and run-in if he gets that far.
