Bespoke rear roll cage

Just wondering if anyone knows of a company who can make a bespoke roll cage for a 911.

My car used to have a Safety Devices rear cage but the main problem was that it required removal of the inertia belts as there was not enough space for them due to the upright legs of the cage. This meant that it was a harness only which was fine for track use etc. but a bit of a pain for touring when the harness is restrictive.

Can't recall if I caught up with you Richard on how you ran it - it came to me with the diagonal and belt bar installed, but the additional two pieces to make a full "X" in a box.

I did manage to fit those but was unsure if correctly - it was a bit of a struggle. Doesn't look right to me but with the joiner section flipped no way it would fit.

don't Jaz fit Heigo cages?  Cant remember for sure but when I looked into it last year I think they popped up as an official supplier/fitter.  I still fancy a rear cage in mine.

By the way, on a plus note for the Heigo, all the bars are adjustable length, unlike a lot of other bolt-in ones. This means you can tailor it exactly for your car.

I modified a second hand safety devices to fit with standard belts.

20mm electrical hole saw and some bungs from eBay at 7/16 unf thread, and some extra tube cut and shaped for a second diagonal and harness bar ,also top mounts to the original seat belt position.

not FIA approved but I won't be entering any rally's ?

I got a 911 SSD Heigo rear cage fitted in the end. Found out about a garage about 15 miles away from me who specialise in Porsche who sourced the cage from Germany for me (took about 6 weeks) and fitted it in a day - great job!

My next question is are these cages classed as a homologated cage? This is a requirement for French hillclimbs.

I will see if I can find out from David Strange for you Thomas as he has been doing them for a number of years. He does run a full cage and has to have FIA approved and in date harnesses etc.

Hi Ian - David sent me the regs for Etretat and it merely says that cars must have "a homologated roll cage" so just need clarification on that. Probably best to contact the event organiser directly.

I know that the Heigo cage is good for an MSA log book as the chap who fitted it has one in his car which attained this but things are not always that simple with the French!!
