Martin's 911SC 3.6 (Re-visited)

Having spent the last 8 years living/working in Singapore, I finally returned home this year and reclaimed my baby after a very long absence.

Prior engagement with very bad people on IB encouraged me to mutilate my SC and undertake an early 9m 993 engine swap (closely followed by a scary trip to the ring with Matteo in his GT40) and implement various evolutions included turbo-duck-whale, 993/965 calipers, 951 Fuchs, GT LSD, WEVO bits and H&S SS exhaust and in the process create a 911 that was/still is a joy to own and drive.

Anyway, I guess its time for the next evolution.

Thanks guys - I really have no idea what happened to the last 8 years and even more worrying is that I originally purchased the SC in SIngapore when my son James was born and and he's now 19 years old and studying for a degree

So next challenge is that faded bubbling 34 year old 'slate blue metallic' paint:

Bubbling mostly limited to front wings which are being replaced with surprisingly minimal corrosion to the rest of the car which was a relief :)

I had my done by Inflex interiors near Banbury - he’s got templates for sports tombstone seats. I was very happy with mine and still are.

If you’ve got deeper pockets Southbound are very well respected.  There is also a guy in Surrey who has a good reputation: http://classiccarrestorationsurrey.co.uk/

Don't have to be Porsche specialist.  Try googling local upholstery firms.  Years back I had my Karmann Ghia interior done by a local lady working from her garage.  She was amazing and also did top end leather stuff for a local Aston restorer.  She charged pennies too.  Found her number on the classifieds board in the local supermarket.

Used to be a big textile industry around here so lots of old seamstress about.

Those Inflex Interiors seats look fantastic - any clues reference cost?

I'm also intrigued with the Lakewell kits and would be interested if anyone has tried to install their covers DIY?

Thx

I'd recommend Dave the Trimmer (01908 585039) at Cranfield. I appreciate he's a little way from you but his work is excellent. He does a lot of custom jobs on hot-rods & campers etc but always has a few Porsches in his workshop, & I notice he's started advertising in the club magazine.

If memory serves it was about £930 including the leather. The leather was from here: http://wildmanbugby.co.uk/

Its about £150 for a hide. You might need two if you want the headrests doing too.  But that would give you enough to do the dash/door cards too.

Inflex’s website is down, but Gerry’s email is inflexinteriors@hotmail.co.uk

Go for it.

With my forthcoming Gulf Blue paint job and sight of Lewis's 'green tartan' inlay seats (above) I've suddenly got the urge to re-cover my seats in Porsche 'blue tartan' in lieu of the perforated leather panels.

Is Porsche spec 'tartan' material readily available and what sort of wear characteristics does it have?

thx

Martin
