Special tools - list of loanables.

Recommended Posts

There are quite a few special tools needed for various jobs on old 911s. I thought it might be useful to keep a list of who has what, so they could be loaned around.   If you’ve got something that is useful and you’re prepared to lend out, maybe you could add to the list (copy and paste the list and add your items):

I’m sure I’ve got others but this is all that springs to mind for me:

Engine:

* long allen key for SSIs (Northy)

* 36mm oil line spanner (Northy)

Suspension

* Thin spring plate spanners (Northy)

Gearbox

* clutch alignment tool for 915 (Northy)

Wiring:

I’ve got some smoke here.

Ha!  I've got most of the tools to put the smoke back in.

Not sure I can loan the kit as it is in use all the time but can certainly test most electrical parts off the car.

Got a full kit for testing CDI boxes.

I have a home made crank pulley brace to fit SC (May well fit others)

Makes removing the pulley easy with the engine in the car.

This is probably a better idea for all those members who live within striking distance of each other in the South, maybe not so much for us Heathens in the North! Anyway, I have what Lewis has stated plus:- engine stand (450 kg. unused as yet), engine adapter which I made in stainless steel (five legged and again unused or tested,  (a bit over-engineered!). Also the universal adapters that Max Diesel had made as a batch some years ago. There is photo of it somewhere in the archives!). I made a camshaft locking tool from the drawings that Max Diesel kindly made available, but subsequently bought his tools off him. Camshaft timing chain tensioners to keep loose chain from falling about on engine build-up! There is probably more but it will hopefully come to mind some time!

David.

For working on 911 engine, suspension whatever - I've got a "swear jar" anyone can borrow.

Seriously though

  • Engine Yoke (ebay version but I've done 3 engines with it and no problem)
  • Engine stand

I’m about to tackle some Jobs on my SC that might mean exchangers off - in anticipation, does anyone have a jig for drilling out broken exhaust studs?

I can add my wheel bearing kit as well.

I also have an engine stand and bracket (ebay special) and 100 bulldog clips for headliner installation 🤣

It weighs 11kgs.  By the time you had paid delivery and return postage you might as well buy the kit.

Didn't Jamie do this job a few months back? Maybe my memory is fuzzy
