Front strip down (including wings)

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Having done the back last year now it's the front's turn!

Any advice on the order to strip everything off the car including the wings:  valance, bumper, bellows etc.   Tips would be greatly appreciated e.g. also dealing with the likes of the washer bottle and oil cooler etc.

I need to remove everything for some paintwork and also to replace a front wing.

Thanks in advance!

Rob

Lights, then bumper first if poss, washer bottles/expansion, then wings.  Stout blade/sharp edge for slicing down the wing joint to separate the bonding tape. Disconnect filler flap release and filler neck.  You'll also need to be able to fully open the doors so you can access the screws that fix the wing to the scuttle.

Not sure what oil cooler you have but you'll need to disconnect it from where it mounts to the back of the headlamp bowl, otherwise leave it in situ.  Loosening/lowering the oil lines might also help access the upper most wing screws.

Angle grinder or dremel type thing might be handing to cutting any stubborn screws/bolts.

Just taken off my front bumper and valance  - definitely need a dremel for all the pesky rusted self tapping screws holding the smile on and the nuts on the bellows - easier to sacrifice the bellows to gain easy access to the fixings - the ones by the oil cooler are nigh on impossible to get to  - Matt@Type911 has replacements - either OEM or less expensive replicas.

Thanks.

So first lights out, then bumper  - but how do you do that?

You know what I am like  - I need a full set of instructions.. 🤓

1) Remove lower panels and bellows?

2).....

3)....

Does the valance bolt to the wing or any bodywork?

Couple of screws either end of the rub strip, near the indicators, it should then pop off with some gentle leverage.  Then you can see the nuts that fix the blade to the mounts

Stupid question sorry - what is the blade?

Are the infill pieces fixed to the front wing?

The blade is the black strip in the middle of the bumper.

The infill pieces are attached to the wing and the valence with 4x 8mm screws, 2

on the top and 2 on the bottom.

With a squirt or three of wd40(other spray lubricants) are available - you can slide the rubber strip off the plastic piece without destroying the clips.
