Oil Filters

Recommended Posts

Over the last few years I have always used Mahle OC54 oil filters but I now need to order some more. A check on the ECP site shows that you once again buy the red Purolator filters.

My thoughts are:

The last time purchased a genuine Porsche filter it felt like a recycled beer can.

The last batch of OC54 filters didn’t feel as well made as they used to be.

Has anybody recently tried the Purolator filters?

.............I wish wife would get a move on and get ready to go out.

Starting to get bored waiting.

Redtek fitted one in my 964, had an oil/filter change after running the engine in. So far done around 2k miles since rebuild and very happy with engine performance & oil pressure.

Hi there,

Yes I have fitted the red purolator filters for the last two oil changes. No problems with them.

I know what you mean re the quality of the black older Porsche branded filters. They are also slightly smaller than both the Mahle and  Red purolator filters. Not sure that makes any difference though !

I’ve used all three over the years (as well as the Mann branded filters) and have not had any problems. To me the OC54 Mahle does look the best but I guess they all have a similar type of filter inside.

Phil

Seems to create rather noisy oil, going to try a mann filter next time.

Noisy in terms of gurgling?

Same here - the gurgling actually was so noisy I had to change it.

Does gurgling equate to bubbles on the dipstick? I can’t recall which filter I saw this with.

OC 54 and no gurgling! Not a big deal but I’d go for the ‘54 as the prefered option?, Especially against the Porsche filter, which seems kind of light? Mal. is a respected make, as is Mann, so one makes one’s choose?

David.

16 years using OC54's for me,   and never heard any gurgling,

When does this gurgling occur.

At start up cold and while idling until driving off. Fine after that. To be honest its never been bad /loud enough for me to worry about it. I've long since stopped worrying about hearing noises in these things.

I’ve just fitted the orange Porsche one as well as the previous one being the same. Never noticed any gurgling and no difference in pressure or temperature compared to Mann or Mahle that I have fitted before.

Have we moved on from oil and tyres to filters now 😋

It depends, what oil are you using with that filter? :door:
