16" Campagnolos by Group 4 Wheels/Caliper info required

Hi all,

We are currently finalising the design of our 7 & 8 (possibly 9" at a later date) x 16" Campy reps and to address the main criticism that, in particular, the 7" is very flat, to do this, your help would be most appreciated.

To achieve as much depth/dish to the wheels, we need to move the webbing part of the wheel (the back of the forward spoke) as near to the caliper as possible, therefore, what I'd like to ask is, what brake setup are people running, specifically calipers, do they sit behind (hopefully) or in front of the hub mounting face (where the wheel sits)?

Attached is a photo a popular upgrade using the Boxster caliper, this, as you can see just sits behind the mounting face, meaning maximum depth/dish to the wheel, photos like this would be perfect.

Across long hood, short hood, narrow and wide bodied cars, we also need to find the worst case scenario, the one where the caliper sits most forward of the mounting face and by how much...hopefully there isn't one (thinking 930 & Big Red calipers)!

Forum rules say that we can't get drawn in to any conversation regarding price, colours, availability etc, but these details will be posted up on our Facebook & Instagram pages as well as on our imminent new website, where you'll be able to subscribe to email updates. Please get in touch through any of these channels or via PM if you'd like more information.

Your help is most appreciated!

Regards

Jonathan

My view is that if we want more variety of wheels for our cars we need to work in partnership, to an extent. I know that G4W is a company that, ultimately, wants to make money but having spoken to Jonathan I believe he is an enthusiast who is partly in this because he cares about what he does.

So I shall kick this off. Boxster callipers over 3.2 discs. Callipers are being the mounting face by 2 or 3mm.

Who's got shots of turbo, big red etc?

I’m running the Carbon 12 brake set up, believe Early 911 and Tuthills are also offering the same kit.

They just clear the wheel but balancing weight location are a problem

a neat F1 trick for adding more clearance for wheel weights is to cast in a radial recess for the tyre weights which also doubles up as the tyre bead too

Very nice, what are the expected weights anD what finishes are you planning

Hi Beaky,

Weights will be available shortly.

I have to be careful, this needs to edge on the side of this being a technical post rather than one for advertising/sales, as per forum rules, there will however be more colours available than previously.

We'll be updating our Facebook/Instagram pages as well as a new website coming online soon.

Regards

Jonathan

Jonathan gave me a call with an update today. He thinks the new wheels will be ready by the new year at the latest. He has made visits to all the reknowned Porsche specialist builders to discuss the best sizes and offsets etc to make sure we get the right look. I'm swaying towards anthracite at the moment. Jonathan says they will be £1150 plus the dreaded.... Can't come at a more opportune time for me really, my back tires are looking the worse for wear.....

I have the standard brake set up for a 930 - let me know if you need pictures, but would be interested in 8s on the front and 9s on the back - I've always loved these wheels

You should post a picture up showing whether or not the calipers finish past the hub mounting face.

Hi Jim,

Had a good look and measure up of all 911's, including 930's, really, you want to run 7's and 9's, although, I believe 8's should fit. Have you had a look at tyre availability?

We're making some final adjustments to our design and then it's over to the factory in Italy.

What widths do you guys recommend on a narrow body 3.2???

Jonathan has sensibly advised 7&8's for obvious reasons but I'm tempted by 9's on the rear.  Thoughts?

Hi Aspro,

The 9” we’re doing is for turbo/wide bodied cars, we’re not doing a 9” version for narrow bodied cars, reason being, tyre availability for 9’s are very thin on the ground and a narrow bodied 9 would require a lot of it’s own die set, whereas the wide bodied 9 shares a lot of die parts with the 7 & 8.

Look at tyre availability for 205/55 & 225/50-16 (7 & 8), then look for 245/45-16 (9), with modern rubber, I’d go 7’s & 8’s all day long. Also, don’t want to over tyre.

Jonathan
