Does the vinyl tape where my fingers are run up the A Post? I don't get why there's 2 layers of carpet.

The 2 layers are to form a storage pocket on an SC and earlier. The pocket space is taken up by the footwell blowers in a 3.2 and so it just makes a double thickness layer.

The vinyl does run up the A post, with the edge under a metal channel if I recall correctly.

This brings me onto my next question - Has anyone else had trouble fitting the multiple layers of carpet behind the internal B-post area? I'm really struggling because there seems to be 3 layers of carpet in some bits from the sill section and then the upper and lower rear arch/under window side panels.

Alex, I think one of your pieces is the wrong way round, or swapped nearside/offside. This is the best pick I could find of my rear carpet.

You're probably right Mark. I started laying them all out and got lost so just played with the jigsaw a bit! The front ones look even more challenging than the rear and I haven't even got there yet!

Hey ALEX P and craigt.  Hopefully you’ve figured it out now and the emails helped 😀 it’s a little tricky doing it the first time.

Thanks for the help. It's a bit of a jigsaw but how hard can it be right?

In between distractions like taking the engine out I had a chance to progress this a bit the other day and have a question:

The top rear side panels - Do you fit the top of it flush with the window frame or fit it right round and under the window rubber?

It will fir both ways but I'm leaning towards squeezing/fitting it up to the rear quarter rubber because if I don't then there is a very visible bit of bodywork behind the window trim.

Did I just answer my own question???

Flush with the window frame:

Tucked under the rubber:

Neither for me, I retained the std rear panel caps to give a neat appearance and match the door caps.

Yes I agree with silverWT, retain the top caps. Looks much neater 👍

I kept the top caps too, they weigh bugger all and tidy the edge up neatly.

Sorry guys, I think you've misunderstood. I am refitting the top caps, I peeled the old blue vinyl off them and recovered them in leather so I'll definitely be fitting them!

When I offered the caps up there was a gap between the cap and the glass & rubber where I could see bodywork. What I was getting at was where abouts you locate the top edge of the carpet - does it fit flush with the window ledge or does it wrap around so that it touches the rubber?

Because of my gearbox project this winter interior refresh is turning into a winter-spring project :(

This is the area I meant - When I offer the rear quarter trim up it leaves a gap in the middle where the metalwork of the window ledge is exposed.

Mark - in your photo it doesn't look like your trim has the same recessed area as mine? Is yours like this:

Also, completely unrelated but I ordered mats with my carpet kit which are basically the front and rear sections again the passenger mat (or carpet) and the pedal board bit have press studs and a small length of leather. Without being thick - any idea what it's for? Not the best photo but looks like this:

There are metal tags with slots in to loop the leather through at the front/top of the footwell. I will get a pic for you in a while.

I'll also have a look at the rear capping bits and report back.

Sorry don't remember without taking them off, but on both the SC and 3.2 they are a tight fit to about half way up the window rubber.

The metal tags with the slots locate the top of the kick/pedal board and then the carpet leather "tags" go through the slots to keep the carpets in place and secure the kick/pedal boards. My ones are on the carpet set, not over-mats.

Thanks Mark, my rear quarter trims look different to yours so maybe they aren't the original ones or are off a 964/993 or something. Or it's the 993 rear windows and rubber that is different. Regardless, it is what it is so I will just make it look as good as it can.

Aha, that's what the tabs are for! It also clears up which set is the carpet set and which is the overmats!!

Cheers for the pics 👍
