Help me choose a new system....

What material is the stud threaded into - is it aluminium or steel? If aluminium then stainless studs are not a good idea.

Titanium would be better but £££ I'm sure.

The specialist I am taking the car to will remove all of the existing studs, though whether I am going to end up with helicoils remains to be seen. I want to start from scratch with the new system.

Where did you get your stainless nuts and barrel nuts from Nige?

Neil recommends Ti but mine all looked fine.  There is a chap on 911uk.com forum that makes some, might be worth a quick search.

Have spoken to Fenn lane and am buying their kit, which actually seems ok value.

Ti studs, nuts and a special socket that can be used through the HEs to install. Am awaiting an e-mail to confirm order.

I don't knowhow well they work, but GT Racing in the US make equal length headers for the 3.2 - http://www.gt-racing.com/porsche-911-european-racing-headers-for-911-2-7-3-2-liter-motors-with-street-adaptor-part-911-158-sa/

Thanks, I was already thinking to go that route but wanted to see if someone sold the whole system (header to muffler) before piecing it together myself. The Dansk race system was pictured but it's for earlier cars.

Fenn Lane exhaust Stud replacement kit on its way comprising:

The ‘kit’ comprises;

12 x Grade 5 6AL4V Titanium Studs to suit ‘Thick Flange’ Heat Exchangers

12 x Reduced AF Grade 5 6AL4V Titanium Flange Nuts

1 x 3/8” Drive 12AF Slim Socket

1 x ¼” Drive 4mm Hex Socket Driver to preload exhaust studs

1 x small pot Ceramslip Anti-sieze lubricant to apply to exhaust nuts – This is a high temperature (1000degC) anti-sieze which will also eliminate the potential for galling during tightening.

I don't know - it's one of the things I need to look into.

Arrived today. I’ll be going under the beast again shortly. Much needed? Either side of each gasket? Don’t want too much of a mess
