North Coast 500 2019

Recommended Posts

Whilst I’m dreaming of the spa classic trip in May, anyone fancy an ib trip later on in the year. NC500! Maybe July or August? I’ve never driven it and so fancy it. Looks stunning!

Just talking to a guy who does this a lot (lives in north Cumbria so on doorstep kind of). Says full nc500 not so good. He does a route that includes a lot f military roads and Isle of Mull and Isle of Skye. Says avoid July and August, tourists and midges. September, October, April and May are best. Going to send me a route he follows. He actually fancies coming along. He has a 964 turbo and his mate has a Carrera 4 993. Just timining it right I guess

I still think July would be fab. Early July before the kids break up from school

No idea if I will have the time, but I am putting my name on the list and will watch as the date firms up.  Big fan of the roads less travelled idea to avoid tourists/traffic/speed cameras.

Plenty of emergency stops for sheep and passing places...

I could be interested too depending on dates, only downside is its a long old schlepp up from Kent :(

even my missus is keen on doing the NC500 for the scenic drive but not sure she'd get same dates we might go for (being a teacher).

ps...great photos above

Flipping eck. Go off grid up in a plane for a day and miss tons!

OK, looks like September is the favoured month and we'll all be following Doc 😜 Beep, Beep!

I'll get more details of the route and stops from my mate and see if we can pull together a plan!

Convoy?  And very early start.

(I wouldn't have a passenger)

I'd be up for Autumn time, early Oct likely.

Agree the west side is much better than the east. East run up from Inverness to John O Groats largely a waste of time.

guys what would be the plan in terms of number of days/nights to do the 500?

Speaking to my pal, rough itinerary;

Day one - drive to Oban (night over in Oban)
Day two - Oban ferry to Isle of Full (night over in Tobermory capital of Mull)
Day three - Isle of Mull to mainland and drive to Isle of Skye (night over in Portree)
Day four - drive Isle of Skye it Fort William (night over in Fort William)
Day five - drive home

Anyone done this? They are going up in August. Military roads! No tourists he promises. Can we all get in to an August timescale?

That’s not the NC500 though

Bit of it? I've never driven it but my pal says the main NC500 a bit boring and full of caravans? Any suggestions on a route Doc?
