Collapsible oil return tubes

Lots of tips and tricks kicking about to get these fitted but you must at the very least get some silicone spray lube or even better some silicone grease to help the o-rings slide more easily.

If you don't have to use the car you might try a spray of some silicone lube on the existing o-rings and a rotate of the oil tube to re-seat the o-ring but beware this may also make things worse so don't do it the night before you need to go for a drive.

hi boys many topics have been written and discouraging about this job..replacing oil return tubes.

personally it takes me 25 minutes max.

Also it depend on if you have 911SC with igr air injections on.But most of the time these days they are all gone for the engines.

So i recommend to get yourself steel oil return tubes with green Viton o rings(never the crap, aluminium types). Then get your self if you still can Bosch Grease.it seams that this one is almost non existing. So the next best is Sachs lube.

prepare yourself all the tubes on table and lubricate the inner o rings very well.Collapse them as far as you can and try several times to open and close them so it will be easier when you install them to open them up.

I usually start with the most difficult that is no 3 cylinder I have to this needle nose pliers and i spread the tube to make sure the circlip is facing down so i can slide my pliers through the exhaust manifold between 2+3..When i get it as far as i can i use a big screwdriver to push it int the slat on the male tube.it is a little harder due to the oil pipe in that place but doable. The rest is piece of cake...Always make sure that the side where the 2 little o rings are is away from the heat exchanger..

I hope this helps

When can you come and do them Ivan? Any time next week works for me.

Thanks for the advice 👍 I need to get access to a lift. It would make every job so much easier. Struggling to motivate myself for laying on my back doing it.

Maybe if it’s only an hours work I’ll get a specialist to do this for me.  I might have a ring around a few and see how long they quote.

Looks perfect Ivan. And I bet you know a fair few good roads round there too! Not quite Gorge du Verdon though I am sure.

Road trip route could take in Spa and Ring as well as some high speed autobahn.

yes boys it is all doable..I could book for you the farm place..i like it because you do not have to worry about your 911 over night ...You can also visit Ferdinand Porsche birth place north  in Maffersdorf nowadays Vratislavice Nad Nisou ..and from the Farm to go to Karlsbad-(in German we use here)- we can take taxi for couple of beers .The first and last;-)And of course some oil return tubes have to be changed eventually';-)

i was there last summer pretty nice small but original..

Bob engine being done;-)

Yep...fastest run in ever....not difficult on the wonderful roads round your old place, and unbelievably having driven what felt like every road between Nice, Grenoble and back again I hit 1000.00 miles on the nose when back at your front gates

i have to admit i do not understand the question ??

Ivan

No worries Ivan.  What I was asking is has anyone replaced the oil return tubes on a car with SSIs. Is there enough access to do it without removing the SSIs?
