Lifting points. C and D right? Nothing stiffer?

Sorry for thread hi-jack.  The lifting points C...do they also work for an 86 car? I cant visually see any strengthening thickness there underside. Still trying to fathom a way to keep the car in the air so I can fit my blinking undertray. Tried putting stands under the a-arms this morning but they clash with the tray edges so cant get close enough to bolt up. I've ran out of options where to jack at the front end so can only see that jacking it behind the front wheels somewhere will work. (The tray extends over the front cross member too so that's out).

I've used points at C previously without issue. Suitably sized block of wood with some padding on a axle stand. Also used both C and D (as close as dammit) on the 924 when I had all the suspension off.

Thanks Les, I Had already tried it and it’s fine. Tray is now on bar the two rear bolts so far, those two rear bolts seem to refuse to bite due to the angle but will get there eventually. :)

We have lift off 🚀 It lifted, it stayed up there. I can get it fully up to max lift inside without hitting the roof. Fab.
I’ve dropped it down to a few inches off the floor overnight just to check all is well.

That’s brilliant Haith. Wish I had more room.

Thanks a Bob. Spoiled I am. You’re always welcome to drive over for an oil change 👍

I have vehicle lift envy 😫

Thanks Stephen. I get rock envy when I see your work! Lol You’re always welcome to bring a car over and get it up in the air. You have that table lift to go in your garage right? Looking forward to seeing that in action.

Rock envy 😂

Yes, got a scissor lift, was quite an unexpected bonus, will compliment my other lift plans 👍

Looking good Haith.

Have you checked if the manufacturer recommends which end to have the heavy bit of the car? Some 2 posters have a "strong" end. Also you can tweak the arms so you get the rear of the car closer towards the centre-line of the posts rather than having all the arms equally extended, this helps with car balance and force put through the floor bolts.

Thank you 🙏

Hmm, enough oomph to lift a little chunky V12🤔

lol I’m sure it would. 3000kg. All that tech on your Aston would scare me to death. How many cylinders! How many plugs! 😱

Thanks Jev. Yup. Spoke to them about a typical 911 scenario. Short arms at the back. To be honest, it’s pretty planted up there. If you rock on either end they will rock but at sensible leverage and pushing etc, sorted.

BB, I see you went for an Automotech Sevices short lift, is yours the narrow version on standard?

I've been measuring up my man cave and been looking at what is out there

Hi Stephen. Yup. It’s their standard width short version. Lifts to 1.5m. Perfect for my standard height garage. Pushes the car up into the eaves and at full lift still has a good 2-300mm space above an IB.
I bought a spare cut out switch which can be wired in series and stops the lift as soon as it’s activated. Think I’m going to build a padded hinged bar over the lift that’ll stop the lift if anything taller than an IB goes on like a 4x4. Just for added security.

Feels like a quality bit of kit. Posts are flipping heavy. Pretty easy to install but they offer a delivery and install service for £350 (which I didn’t know/wasn’t told until after and delivery is £150 anyway). It’s a mechanical release lift so you need to pull a release on each post to lower. But an advantage is it can lower without lifting up first. I worked on the principle that the less tech, the less to go wrong. Good in a lift right 👍

You're welcome to come see it work if you’re looking at buying one 👍

Thank BB, thanks, good to know about the quality, they seem like a reputable company

I've a bit of room 6.2m wide by 6.5m long to play in but don't want too many post obstacles.

On one side of my man cave I'll have my flush scissor platform so that won't get in the way but on the other side I'm looking at all types of lifts from a 1 post, 2 post and 4 post and various combinations 🤔

If you have the scissor lift too, I'd go 4 poster for easy drive on, lift up. Scissor for wheels off action.

That lift looks great a really good value for money. Dimensions wise i would be fine but what do they says about floor mounting - do you need to bury anything in the concrete or can you just bolt it into an existing concrete floor? Did they give you any details about what their fitting service entails?

They said you need a 5" slab. If its less than 5", you can still fit but you'd need to chemical anchor bolts in the ground. Its pretty solid when it's in. I borrowed a bloody big torque wrench and have the floor bolts in at 150Nm (book says 203Nm but that's crazy in concrete and might even crack it- they said that just needs to be in there for H&S). Bolts that come with it just drive into holes. Book says 19mm holes but 19mm SDS Drill bits aren't available. 20mm works well and gave me a hell of a torque down.

Fitting service is deliver, erect, test and go. They even turn up with a little crane on the van to unload it!  Wish I'd known!

Its a great bit of kit. This is Shirls right up on the lift

Stephen some of the newer 2 posters now have articulated arms and are wider so you can open the doors once the car is on the ramp which makes life a lot easier. You would also be able to get the trucks up in the air as well.

Cheers for that Baz, my garage is 6,2m wide so I'm trying to keep the half without a lift as wide as possible

I'll knock up some pretend posts out of wood and play around to see what works best before ordering anything

Hi all. this is the best thread ever! for buying a lift for a domestic garage.

I'm in a similar position and I've been hopping between scissor and post but I have limited space (as usual).

Question for @Busybee  are the posts only anchored in the concreate or are there metal "feet" under the centre cover - or is that just for hydraulic lines ?  Also do you think they could be fitted even closer together ? as I'm about 100mm short on width to the overall figure of 2860mm

Hi Lee. Posts anchored only. The cover plate that runs between posts is joined in the middle with a couple of bolts and then fixes on the post bases. I’m sure you could modify the cover plate to bring the posts in.
It’s a good bit of kit. Posts are a pain for opening the doors.
