The Eternal Corrosion Question ...

Recommended Posts

One other thing to mention, if there is major rust underneath this will weakness the cars structure,  hopefully not, but in the event of an accident............

Thanks for the feedback, ... without advertising are there any preferred specialists who come to mind in the Yorkshire area ?

whereabouts in Yorkshire are you? I had a bare metal resto done at fullthrottleclassics in Thorp Arch. Its a classic car place not specifically Porsche, but he always seems to have one or two in. Russell is the owner, he is a one man band, so you only deal with him. I was very pleased with the results.

I think the problem with your particular rust, is that they will not be able to quote accurately until they reveal the extent of the corrosion. My advice would be to have a chat with recommended garages. I also went to Performance Porcshe in Brighouse with Tipec. They do a lot of resto work and had some nice cars in, but haven't used them personally so can't recommend them from my own experience.

That`s true to up to a point, but it s the oldest slimiest trick in the body shop book to magnify the price, once the car is apart.

Not in any way referring to the garages mentioned above, but have been there with  classic car shops Edinburgh areas

I was at the garage I mentioned today and was talking to the owner about this. Its a very common issue, he said he is happy to chat with you. He can give you a best case and worst case scenario, that way you know where you are. My advice, take the car, go along. Have a chat and look around and try a couple of other recommended places too and then make your choice.

This is the very reason I sold my Supersport I just didnt want to use it in the rain or bad weather , rust appeared from no-where and I just got tired shelling lots of money putting it right

So I made the painful decision to get rid

Now I have a car with no rust issues goes like stink use it right though the year and put money in bank

Have no regrets

Mike

Yeah but we’d all be driving year old Audi’s or vw’s if we thought like that

It would be cheaper though and an all round the year car …..you make your choice

Sorry to say I don't the 997 is a far better car all round where the SS was great to drive and looked great in everyway it wasn't used as a everyday car which was another reason to sell it the 997 is all yr round car...…….I can drive it everyday and its not locked away in a garage waiting for the dry weather to appear and after all its still a 911 but a modern one

Also I had my SS 10yrs time to move on

Im surprised Mike. I have a 987 Boxster as well as the air cooled and to be honest, it only gets used for mundane journeys, grotty weather or at times when I don’t want to use the ib. On a fun sunny day, the ib keys get picked up every time.
