Windscreen

Recommended Posts

Had a couple of stone chips on the windscreen in Shirls. Got the insurance windscreen folk out today to repair them. Not overly impressed to be honest. Can still see one and the other not much better. Who offers good quality replacement windscreens for sc/3.2 cars?

So, called my insurers today about the stone chip and what looks like a small crack on my windscreen on G38. They asked me to call the underwriters which I did. Passed onto National Windscreens. Manager at local depot called. Didn’t go well. Kind of lost my stuff with him cause he couldn’t be less helpful. Been in the windscreen industry for 25 years don’t you know.

Anyway, spoke to AIB again to tell them I wasn’t happy. They spoke to the insurer and they’ve agreed to pay up to £500 for a replacement windscreen (less my £90 windscreen excess). Got a few prices

opc cardiff - genuine screen and 964 seal, £750+vat fitted

Autoglass -£1800! - ffs. Don5 want the work, just say so.

Auto windscreens - £340 all in for a Pilkington screen and aftermarket seal. Tempted to buy the original seal and ask them to use that with the pilkington screen .

What do you reckon chaps?

Use a genuine seal Haith. I've recently tried aftermarket versions following reports that they had been improved but they're still not as good as genuine. £340 still sounds about right these days for Pilkington.

Cheers

Thanks Andrew. Think I’ll ask my insurers if they’ll cover the cost of the seal from OPC and the Auto Windscreens cost. They said they’ll cover up to £500 of expenditure. Any idea how much a screen is to buy outright and good places to source one? Quite fancy a heated screen (so I can touch it while I freeze to death in G38 😂) but no idea how complicated they are to fit etc.

Cheers

Haith

BB is just fine thanks Haith.

I get my screens via a trade contact from Saint Gobain and paid £240 inc VAT for BB's earlier this year. (Sorry, I can't sell them on before you ask). Maybe 'Type 911' Matt can recommend a supplier? Love the new car by the way, looks a proper hooligan!

Cheers

Thanks Andrew. Love it. Proper ASBO. Total contrast to Shirls which is lovely.

Might be worth contacting Paul at http://www.glasstecauto.co.uk/ - he seems to know his way around 911 windscreens. Perhaps he fancies a busman's holiday in Llandovery?!

Paul Ralhan sorted my screen through his contacts when Porsche couldn’t supply and delivered to Sportwagen - top fella

No mate, didn’t think they would - probably worth a cheap B&B nearby, same will most likely apply to Glasstec, who i think are hertfordshire based

Ricky Evans in Tamworth- Google Heatedwindscreen.com or Ricky Evans Motorsport.

Standard tinted is sub £200 and a heated screen is sub £250 (plus vat).

Seal is around £80.

Front screens are very easy to fit. Not worth the pain of watching autoglass making a botched job and certainly not worth getting a black mark on your insurance record.

Thanks. Look good. I’ve had a couple of goes at fitting screens on my 912. Didn’t have an original seal and it was a mare of a job. Rather let someone else sweat it to be honest. Especially a heated screen.
