And that, is the end, of that.

I had a whole saga planned for you lot: it would seem the car had other ideas. Just called ADAC, waiting for recovery etc. Travel insurance aren’t open until Monday...:banghead:

Started car to move through check in and it didn’t run right, then *bang* and fire...Lots of helpful people with extinguishers but it kept burning until the fire brigade turned up. Now been moved to the ferry terminal compound, awaiting ADAC. Travel and car insurances aren’t open until Monday. ADAC won’t recover if car is a total loss. I think it may be salvageable. The duck and rear bumper seem OK. Hopefully the 8 inch Fuchs is good: tyre went pop...

Those photos are quite sickening, cant imagine what it must feel like having to watch your car burn.

Wow Fraser sorry to hear this.  Good thing is you’re ok and as you say it look salvageable.  Any thoughts on cause, not a victim of the dreaded ethanol issue with old rubber etc?

Agree, you and your family are irreplaceable, your car can be repaired and will look as good as before. However, that's heartbreaking seeing your car burning and very little you can do. I have an extinguisher in my car and hope will never have to use it, but wouldn't stop an engine fire, like yours.

All the very best

Oh man, so sorry to see this. :(

Onwards and upwards. Fingers crossed for a speedy outcome.

Car doesn't look too bad from photos. Hope it can be resurrected :)

I don’t know- I always go for the E5 option, 98 if I can get it. Tank was full, mostly 95, just topped up with VMax 98 today.

I had an extinguisher, as did lots of camper vans around me, which helped, but didn’t put the flames out.

Yes. Not going to Iceland now 😥:banghead: Contacted the travel and car insurance but they aren’t open really until Monday. Oh well, time to have a shower, something to eat and maybe lots of alcohol

You do trips other people only think about 😎

Iceland isn't going anywhere soon, so plenty of time for a return trip, hopefully with the same car only better!

Triggers broom meets Steve Austin....

Looks like I’ve managed to cancel most of the Iceland accommodation, so that’s some good news.
