The SC has gone so to plug the hole I got a fiddled Cayman which is something I'm really beginning to enjoy. It's been fiddled and all the upgrades have been done on it . There's a few more to do but a really engaging car with the right amount of hp to not get you into ant serious trouble. It feel strange getting into so etching relatively modern everyday as apposed to so.ething more classic but as I'm getting older I'm starting to see the appeal. 🤦

Think the price range for these and their character better represent the appeal of the IBS I first got in to. When the early  air-cooled cars  were more affordable and the community less beard and vape and more skinned knuckles and Saturdays spent spannering. (Strictly my view)

So the car has uprated suspension miltek exhaust lightweight flywheel and a GT3 steering wheel which is a nice touch.

Think this might be a long term ownership as I've never liked the 911 variants of similar years.

Who else has a Cayman ?

Yes I have a Gen 1 2006 good little car for the money and with a few mods an engaging driver, still have the 911.

My thread below shows my upgrades, but the suspension and exhaust etc on your seems to be the recognised ones.  Worth looking at the Cayman OC forum, MarkJ on here has a Gen 2 Cayman R.

Awesome. Thanks for the pointers. It's great to see the various communities for these models. Like most of the RND done at their first inception it's seems the owners have a fiddle. Try things establish what works and what doesn't. The dynamics of this car are very different to others I have owned but I find it a good daily albeit a bit of struggle getting in And out of but like my 68 I've developed a routine.

I'll be getting into my IB when its finally done. Just never seems to be enough time for everything.

D

I’ve got a 2008 gen 1 ragtop version. Totally standard mine. Good fun little car especially with the roof down on a sunny day

Welcome to 987 world.  You can check out my thread on here detailing my mods etc or have a sniff around boxa.net where I also detail a running report.

Great cars that are well judged as standard but come alive with a few choice tweaks.  Gen1s need really good oil and a low temp stat for piece of mind, and maintenance of rads and suspension arms but those seem to be the only common issues.

I got one of these, a  05 3.2S version, Standard apart from a Carnewal exhaust, it's been great across Europe can easily carry mine and the missus luggage, glorious with the roof down on a sunny day.

I think these 987's compliment the IB perfectly

Yup. I really like them. Lots of luggage space. Got pipped to a 2011 black edition with all the toys recently. Gutted. They are really good value the 987's and a lot of fun. Even tracked mine a couple of times.

Seems like a new movement. Up the 987s! Perfect compliment to the in  as a daily I think. With working Aircon 💪

Yup. Very good value. Wonder if anyone has experience with chipping one. This claims 320hp but I’ve heard 360 is achievable with a tweak or two.

nice buy, if I hadn't gone spendy for the CR (Damn youtube vids suckering me in :steering: ) I would have gone for a black edition. They have great spec and are a little more tuned.  I expect you would have to spend some bigger bucks to get 360 out of it from 320 though! But 335 must be more realistic as that's what the CR is. (CR has bigger exhausts, aggressive ECU mapping but also superlight wheels, alloy doors, lsd etc.). Its a bit like saying a 964 can be made a 964RS with a few tweaks :P

Try it for a bit before worrying about the hp.  Make it reliable and then think about the mods.  For fast road use, brakes ought to be the first priority IMHO.

Light 18 inch wheels are IMHO a good upgrade plus reversible and adds a touch of personalisation.  I may downsize the rear tyres to 255 (vs 265) next time around to change balance a fraction and also shorten the gearing a fraction.  Probably stay 235 front though 245s are tempting.  Some track 987s run a square set up...

I would be highly sceptical of claims of big hp gains mapping an NA Porsche engine.  They are hardly undertuned to start with.

An observation, the CR vs S is more like an options pack compared to 964RS vs 964. If in doubt start writing a list of changes for each - the RS is a longer and less achievable list.

not sure Gt3 aluminium doors are on any options list and the price for all the extras would be exorbitant,  but get your drift. Clubsport and normal G series maybe ;)

Thanks. Drove up to see it today and did the deal. Few marks on the body being sorted out, wheels being refurbished for me and I got a deal on a 3 year insurance type rac warranty and a detail.

Drove well. Has the Spyder wheels so I’m guessing they’re light weight. Pretty well specced too. PSE, PASM, PDLS, chrono, heated seats, cruise, pcm 3, sports seats with crests. It’s done 60k but hey ho, so has my current Boxster. Nearly half the price of a CR so there has to be a few spendy differences.

Power, carnewal do a 200 cell cat header that they say gives 10hp. http://www.carnewal.com/products/987/p87017/987-2-Exchange-Sport-Cats New map, who knows. Reckon 340 to 360 is achievable but I’ll drive around for a bit. It’s a step up from the 245 in my 2.7.

Thanks Richard. I’ll see how the brakes go but DS2500’s on my shopping list for her.

By the way, can someone explain chrono to me? Not a scooby.
