Tyres for 16” Fuchs 8 and 9’s

Recommended Posts

I know, I know, another tyre thread. My new to me RB car needs new tyres. Have older toyo 888’s on at the moment. 225/45 and 245/45. Probably too much track and not enough street for me. Think enthusiastic fast road driving.

No experience of the wider Fuchs and what people are running.

Have discussed with RB and he’s given me some options to consider. Thanks Richard. Just wondering what others are running and if you like?

Oh, and they need to look cool as **** cause the car deserves it.

Having a quick look at camskill, I think you’re going to struggle getting a matching road tyre set to fit

In those sizes at least

What size wheels/tyres do you run Shirish?

I'm running Toyo Proxy T1R on my identical setup. I find them very grippy on the road. You can also fit 225/50/16 on the back wheels which open up your choices massively. I'm liking the look of the new Yoko AD08RS at the moment, which are a bit more track orientated, but may still be suitable on the road.

7 & 9 - 205/55 and 245/45

You might be able to stick 225/50 upfront but would increase the diameter

Unsure if you can fit 205/55 on the 8” - would be a stretch?

Thanks Paul. Can't find the T1r's in 225/45/16's. Rears are ok but the fronts not on black circles. The Yoko's look great. Again though, can't match a set in those sizes 😔

Cheers Shirish.

If I go 225/50's up front, I can get Conti's. Think Richard has run 50's front and back previously.

I've got 225's up front and 245's on the rear of both sets of wheels (one slightly wider split rims and the other 8" & 9" Fuchs).

It's what the rims deserve otherwise you may have gone for weedy 7's 😉

What profile and make do you have Alex? Not easy finding a set that are 225/45/16 up front and 245/45/16 at the back.

Ah sorry B, I meant to say I was running stock sizes for 8/9's, so 225/50/16 and 245/45/16 respectively.

Not 100% on the geo that the car was setup with, if you ran 225/50/16 you may need to raise the front a bit, perhaps someone in the know can confirm? Saying that the differenve between 225/45 and 225/50 is very minor so perhaps you'll be grand :)

I have 7’s and 9’s on mine and run standard 205/225 but use S02’s , the sidewall is very straight and the tread pattern wide so they don’t look stretched in any way

Thanks Paul. Difference is about 11mm. Reckon I can get away with that. Opens up a world of sizes

Conti's on one and S02's on the other (although the 245's are a few years old now and NLA I think). Sizes are 245/45/16 & 225/50/16

How does 225/50 compare with the standard 205/55 setup?

Good to know - have you fitted 911 or 951 offset 8”?

225/50 gives a 112.5mm sidewall height

205/55 gives a 112.75mm sidewall height

225/45’s on there give a 101.25mm sidewall height.

Lift the car 11mm and give an extra 11mm in the arch.

...in summary...

  • F205/55 & R225/50 - will make the car feel more light and agile and gives good tyre selection options (Inc SO2). On paper this looks a bit under-tyred for such wide wheels but in reality if you pick the right tyre it wont be that much different visually.
  • F225/45 & R245/45 - slightly heavier but more panted feel, decent tyre selection and is what narrow body 8" fuchs user would do to stretch the tyre a bit to clear the front arch however it does change the sidewall ratio F/R from spec.
  • F225/50 & R245/45 - As above but closer to correct F/R sidewall profile so if you have room this is the better looking 225F 245R combo.
  • F225/50 & R255/50 - 'magnus style' :)

Such a shame SO2 stopped doing the 245/45 rear.

This is who i get most of my tyres from. They bought all the old UK R888 stock when Toyo launched the R888r and are selling them off hence the mega deal:

Thanks Jev Meister. Think you've pretty much summed it up. That is a cracking deal. Probably be older stock by now?

It is a bargain if they're not too old Paul 👍

Just spoke to Camskill. They recommend going to 225/50 and 245/45. Said the load rating on the 45 fronts are lower than a 50 sidewall tyre. 89 versus 92 (whatever that means). Gave me the usual about legalities of tyre stretching, non factory sizing etc. Scared the bejesus out of me.

Might be relevant on a heavy FWD car, but not on the light front of an IB.

I run 225/45 16 fronts on track, 205/50 16 fronts on the road and 245/45 16 rears on both track and road.
