Looking to buy a 930 Turbo

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I’m seriously thinking about buying a 930 Turbo and wondered if there was a person who runs a 930 data base (or similar) that I could contact with a VIN number of any cars I find , who might know something about their history?

Also does anyone knows a good specialist in the Midland’s who I could pay to PPI any cars that I might find?

Thanks .

930 market is in the gutter right now. and I have 2 of em so cant be blamed for bias.

buy an early 3.0 or a late G50 imo. these cars really come alive with some modern cams/EFI/turbo.

Cheers - are you saying with mods you can get rid of the turbo lag ?

no, but it can become a whole lot more responsive

Turbo lag is all part of the 930 experience, it's a characteristic of the car that makes it a 930, I like the turbo delay gives me time to tighten up my butt cheeks before the boost kicks in

Serious question are you really sure you a 930 is your type of car as they are not everyone's cup of tea

I have a 964 C2 and a late 930 5-speed, very different drives, 930 is a perfect classic cross continent crusher of a car but on tight, twisty UK B-roads or mountain passes I'd rather be in my 964

Interesting post this - you must be psychic, as this is exactly what I’m debating at the moment.

I’m trying to decide between a 930 Turbo vs. 964 RS.

I previously owned a 964 3.6 Turbo which I thought was the most stunning looking car, but I found it a little heavy and a bit GT cruiser for my liking . However, for some reason I just keep coming back to a 930 Turbo (even though I know from an agility perspective it will probably be the same as my old 964 Turbo) ; they just just look so right, whereas the 964 RS looks a little dull.

It’s a very simple heart over head question to me - heart says 930 Turbo , head says 964. Lots to think about really (including buying a nice manual C2 964 rather than an RS - if I go down this route)

Either way, you’ve called it perfectly :)

RS money would easily buy a mint 930 and 964 C2 so best of both worlds 😎

Didn't mean to call it perfectly, my cars chose me not the other way round, both bought sight unseen when neither car was desirable

Originally after a 3.2 but found a forward dated low mileage 930 for less money

Then a whole 964 followed me home when I tried to buy just an 3.6 engine

Crying out for martini livery. Much interest in it?

A little interest. All the old stickers are now removed and it’s had a good polish.

It would look great with a martini livery but the next owner needs to make that decision.

You know, only my opinion of course, it’s just a tad too hardcore. If it were mine I’d soften it a bit. Cut out the door cross bracing and weld in brackets for removable side bars. Put in either plastic full windows or even glass up front for a bit of comfort. Not much else except the martini decals. Perfect 👌

Yes, that would be nice - not sure it’s ever going to happen though :(

Can’t be too far out of reach if a 64RS is in the running? No idea what they’re asking for the singer mind.

I’m guessing, but I imagine, at least a couple of 964 RS’s : also if my numbers came in I’d want to spec the Singer myself from scratch - but in truth, a nice Tuthill ST would do nicely :)
