Ha, just got that, wasn't deliberate Well I'm back, 190 miles to start the running in. First impressions? Quieter at motorway cruising speeds, engine temperature seems to be lower and oil pressure higher. Needs a tune up as was expected and the AIT sensor is not working so that needs fixing. Phill Posted November 3, 2019 Author Share Posted November 3, 2019 Managed 42 miles of semi-spirited, low rev, driving this morning - goodness me that's dull! Noticed a little bit of weepage overnight (from the car). Lower left valve cover and the case joint to the rear of the sump plate was wet and there were, perhaps 3 drops on the floor. Wiped it all down before drive and on return it still seems dry on the joint. Not fussed about the valve covers as they will be coming off again anyway. Also noticed that my fuel pipes have been put back wrong so I will need to change them. Bit of a faff but not the end of the world. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ivan Ivan, you should come to England and try to do 500 miles non stop! That's probably about 12-15 hours. It took me 3 and a half just to do 190 yesterday on a quiet Saturday. I will do some longer stints but that will have to wait for next weekend. My main aim was to see if there were any oil leaks after what I saw from overnight. The only alternative is to start off with a dyno run in to bed the rings and bores but you still need road miles with engine braking and loads to complete the job. Sadly Ivan this is so true....it's almost impossible to do heavy mileage on the right sort of roads in England; you're soon in a built up area trawling through traffic. And time is a problem - even in France I cheated and used the autoroute for the last 200 miles (I did still look to vary the revs). Maybe you need to open a garage within 100 miles of Calais! My last two engine builds at Redtek (no longer around) took 4 months each! Both builds leaked oil actually but Nick sorted them quickly and then all was good. Saw a £30K fresh engine build back at an indie workshop on Friday because of oil leaks. It had been sub-contracted to a very well respected engine specialist and the thing was dropping oil quite badly. Poor state of affairs when shelling out that kind of money. First engine leaked from the nose bearing so he had to split the cases again. 2nd engine leaked from the rocker covers. I agree with Ivan that the professional builders should ideally get these builds right first time. It's a pain to take the car back to the builder to get them corrected.
