BB’s detailing adventures

Recommended Posts

Just so you guys who 🙄 at car detailing can walk on by, thought I’d start my very own car detailing thread. I’m loving it. Satisfaction seeing a paint finish go from dodgy to decidedly gorgeous is huge.

After Daisy’s makeover, my mate Al’s edition 1 Cayman.

Was ceramic coated a couple of years ago but washing and use have taken their toll. Plus a next door neighbours cat got in his garage and scratched the clear coat getting on the car. Paint looking a bit tired.

So a thorough wash revealed this

I clay barred the car all over. Lots more muck off

Then a single stage machine polish all over

Results are superb. Most scratching and swirls gone

Coat of ceramic going on tomorrow.

Nice effort haith - I bet Al was well chuffed? Get him to buy you a paint gauge as thank you ;)

Couple-u-pointers...

Clay in straight lines as much as you can, no swirly loops at each end.
Get some tape for the bits you don't want to polish (lights / door trims etc), means you can ride of the tape a bit with the machine and get the paint polished right next to the edge instead of having to miss it by a few CM by hand.
ALWAYS each stage to one panel at a time, sometimes what works on one panel doesn't work on another due to paint depth or hardness or a million other factors. Doesn't actually take any longer once you get all your kit laid out and you will be able to do each panel to a much better standard than if you just do the whole car in one hit.

Do you use a panel wipe between stages?

Good work.

As Jevvy says, straight lines for clay and I was advised to clay along the lines of the car, ie front to back motion and not across the car.  Tape is also a good recommendation.  I don't do they valet thing often as mine is a rough old fella, but it is pretty satisfying to see the effort pay off.

Cheers Bob. I could tell when I saw your car mate 😍

Thanks @jevvy and @Fuchs915. Top tips. Finished Al’s car this evening. Rubbish photos but she’s looking tip top 👍

Looks excellent Haith.  😎

Thank you 👍 Pretty cool car is Al’s Cayman. Think it’s been remapped at some point and has a carnewal exhaust. Accelerates like something much more powerful.

Brill Rich. Look forward to seeing you. Are you bringing the CR or 3.2? Mine won’t look like that after a 3 hour blast cross country lol.

  • 1 month later...

So more detailing today following the wet drive to Bicester. Daisy was snow foamed, washed and dried Sunday but I had this stuff on order to try and thought I'd wait to polish her up. Came today so straight in the shed after work. Wow!

Pearl Nano Ceramic Sealant. Da bomb!

Tried it on my black car too. Another wow but I forgot to take pictures. If any of you want to buy some of this stuff cheap, let me know. I now have a trade account 😂
